NEW YORK -- Twinkies may last forever, but the same can’t be said for the company that makes the cream-filled sponge cake. Hostess Brands Inc., the company that makes Twinkies and Wonder Bread, has asked a judge for permission to go out of business and lay off 18,500.

I've only ever had one twinkie in my life ( They are not sold over here except in specified US candy stores and the prices are ridiculous )and I honestly can't say it was anything special So not going to be a great loss to me , but thats just me

You say that kingcolex and food patents are almost as insane as mobile phone patents but looking back on things having food companies pick the bones of their fallen competitors (or indeed produce things others no longer produce- seen crystal pepsi lately?) and run with it does not seem as common as other industries.

Personally I can not stand the things, but anything that lends its name to a legal defence after a fashion ( http://www.snopes.com/legal/twinkie.asp ) I can not hold in an entirely negative light.
