Can i ask one thing....why Cless and not Cress?
There's a part in the game that has english spellings of each characters names. It's in images so I can't get to it, but they have the japanese names spelled in english.
It says "Cless Alvein" so I stuck with it. But yes, it'd be a good idea to change that.

nTbtk.png

The area circled in orange, I cannot edit yet. So it would say Cless and Cress on the same screen if I changed one.

Unless it really isn't as big of a deal as I am making it? :P

edit: Stahn has this problem too. His image reads "Stan Alleron".

It's better that you keep consistent.
If you could change the image to read Cress Albane though then I would be all for it :P
Trust me I'm looking into it. :D
The Radiant Mythology 3 translation team had the same issues with images, iirc. It's just a case of unknown archive format or something. The files are easy to find in a hex editor, it's just how to extract and insert them that's difficult (for non-insanely-skilled coders like me at least) lol

First patch is up.
Instructions may seem a bit much, but it's easy if you just follow it step by step.

It's necessary to patch each file by itself to avoid having a 200MB+ patch. :S

Unless it's outright ridiculous (Because let's face it, sometimes they're just so far off the mark, ahaha), I prefer leaning towards the official romanizations.
If it's just a manner of L/R and V/B I'd lean towards them knowing what they wanted.
But that's just me.
...unless there's actually a meaning behind specifically "Cress" and "Albane".

Like how the official romanization of Kohaku in Tales of Hearts is Kohak I think...which is clearly wrong since they're going for the typical Kohaku/Hisui (Amber/Jade) duality thing between the siblings.

[EDIT]

Patch is working pretty well so far. Good for some mindless hack and slash at least.

Stan is japanese name of Stahn.
Cless is better than Cress.
Any of translation projects have named as Cless Alvein.

I'm worryed naming convention.
Some of English version have bad naming convention. (Recycling previous naming, [Garr and Bruiser and Karyl], etc.)

Removed own character names.

This is still a long way away, but when you start on the story translations you HAVE to do Chester's as one of the first.
Oh sweet lord Cless your puns are so terrible.
Not sure how you'll be able to translate it since most of them are puns on character names and some of the words he uses to pun with are due to how word is said in Japanese.
Maybe in brackets as a TL note or something.

[EDIT]

The "More Hit Ring" has a blank for the unlock requirements in the store.
There was one or two more with blanks but I forgot to make a note of them. x.x

Those parts of the story, I cannot touch... I can edit what they say during the battle (the text that displays in the top-left corner), and the scrolling text as seen in Cless' story mode (the first part, at least).
Unless someone can help with this unknown compression in the namco.bdi file, I'm pretty much stuck on the rest (the skit-style text)

As for the character names, I'm keeping them with the original names as seen in this game. The only exception is Kohaku. The game says it's Kohak, but yeah, Kohaku should be the correct name for her. c:

I'll look into the missing unlock requirements, thank you!

Thank you Manasword for the arte links, those will be helpful!

That's a shame, but like I said, that'd be a long way away from now, not expecting anything immediately.:P

Looking at some of these arte names you should just straight up "translate" them if it's just kata representing English words.
Having Majinken (Demon Fang) makes sense.
Having...let's look at Mila here, Asarutodansu (Assault Dance) doesn't make sense (And looks kind of silly) since...clearly they straight up mean Assault Dance anyway.
I'm all for having romanized names, but if they're aiming for English words anyway might as well make them English.

That's a very valid point, and I originally had it that way, but myself and a few others thought it looked kind of inconsistent to have both naming conventions mixed in the main list (shops, etc)

I am planning on renaming them all to English once every arte has a english name (whether it is fan-made from the kanji or if it's obvious what they're saying)

For instance 光竜滅牙槍, Kouryuu Metsugasou can either be called literally "Light Dragon Destroy Fang Spear" or it can have a name created by someone into something like Radiant Dragon Fang. (In this case it's an official translation but what I'm trying to say still applies.) I'll be happy to have all the artes given a name and changed eventually. (:

If possibly keep the names original, I have played both the SNES version of "Tales Of Phantasia" and the PSX
as well, Both in english except the SNES version because there was a Spanish version as well...

And I'd like to say stick to the original romanized names, USA publisher love to screw games when localizing for
western audiences... I'm telling you this because I also played the GBA version of "Tales Of Phantasia" which was
the only OFFICIAL translation... And it was not terrible but it did lack LOTS of things from teh opriginal...

For example the main characters like "Cless" was renamed to "Cress" I was like: "What the!?"...

Also when you reach a town where you board a ship after you get arche, In the original SNES and PSX versions
there was a scene where the "Summoner" Klarth F. Lester and the "Witch" Arche klaine where drinking alcohol... The
talinking went a bit up in tone and Cless went to sleep, After that Arche started to mumble stuff about Cless "Doing" her
harder and.... You know, That kind of stuff. lol...

Anyway that scene was deleted in the GBA western release... Along with a bunch of other scenes with sexual dialogue
and jokes and abusive words...

Point is, The original version in terms of content like dialogue, Names, Terminology, Etc... Tends to be better than it's
western counterpart most of the time...

Sorry for the wall of text, But I felt like a good reason for keeping original names over western ones was needed. It's
up you in the end tough, Good luck with the patch and be happy on your holydays!!

Yep, I started working on it again yesterday. I want to organize the untranslated text into spreadsheets and start a public google document where the community can help if they want to, or just see how the progress is coming along. And it can easily be reversed if vandalism occurs, by the way.

Chester's comical scenario.
It now says “Kyle! You need to be honest! I know you have something good!”

They're searching for a legendary food item and think Kyle has it. :P

The comical scenarios are the best.
Also, about the whole item unlock requirements being missing I mentioned a while ago, it's because they're bleeding over to the next item.
Missing a linebreak or something.
