Android Excited for the Nexus 10? Buying?

With the Nexus 10 finally upon us and due out within two weeks, how many of you guys are excited about Google's latest tablet?

I am personally very excited for it and will purchase one when it's released. Hopefully Google does $25 free Google Play credit offers again.

I'm definitely excited for the luscious screen.

But the local launch price and optimized apps are things which will not make me buy Nexus 10.
No LTE is another huge bummer.

While your other comments are valid, sub-par screen is just laughable. All the reviews are saying this has the very best screen around, way better than even the Retina iPad.
It has the same resolution as the 13 inch retina MBP, for god's sake.
But no, I won't be getting one. That Nexus 4, on the other hand...

the reviews are just looking at resolution, have they compared brightness, contrast, colors, and side-by-side to other tablets?
alot of reviews mention the ipad retina display looks sharper despite having a lower resolution
not to mention the fact that many apps will have to be upscaled which tend to cause alot of jagies, shoving an ultra high resolution tends to be a bad thing when there are barely any apps optimized for it which is a big problem in the android tablet market, it just doesnt have the HD app support that iOS has
it will be fine for watching movies and what not but the screen isnt all thats its made out too be

iPad has slightly better word rendering compared to Nexus 10 according to reviewers, that's why they appear sharper.

Most reviews are stating that this display is on par with iPad, but falls really short in app support.
Google needs to do a lot of work to make sure this tablet has a decent number of optimized apps, or else it's pretty much pointless.

I really want one but the lack of tablet support apps is an issue for me.
Thing is that with Android it should be kinda simple to make it recognise Tablet modes and switch. Google have been doing a lot of work to try and make it as easy as possible but not even the big boys like Facebook or Twitter have made tablet optimised apps.

Many apps are upscaled or stretched mobile versions, which look pretty bad in this resolution.

It's just like how horrible MS Office looked on the Retina MacBook Pro when it first launched.

This is wrong. The difference is that all apps on Android are 'universal' so, if the developer has implemented it properly, will change their layout and UI according to the size and resolution of the screen. And for those apps that don't offer proper tablet support, what is offered instead is better than what happens on an iPad - the app is scaled accordingly, so intead of having a piddly little iPhone size screen in the middle of the screen, or a jaggedy mess when it's blown up fully, Android tablets implement proper UI and vector scaling.

As much as I love Android, I'm not much of an early adopter. I'll probably give this 6 months or so before considering a purchase

That isn't proper tablet support then. Its better but not that much better. Its brilliant for games etc. since they don't have to change to much but for everything else Tablet support is just a disaster on the Play Market. Meanwhile on iOS APple have got the vast ecosystem of apps with PROPER tablet UIs, not blown up Phone versions and like I said even the big boys don't bother implementing it properly on Android while their Universal iOS apps ahve had the support for years.

I really wanted one and thought I could pay for it using store credit from Gamestop to buy Google Play giftcards since I had $140 store credit. You know, cause the nexus 10 is only available in the Google play store. But being paranoid, I looked it up to see if this was truly possible. IT'S NOT, the shitty giftcards are ONLY for digital purchases. So I almost fucked myself by getting $400 of worthless Google Play un-refundable giftcards. Dodged a bullet there. I got the nexus 7, it's dank even though no rear-camera, no microsd

Personally, I will be picking one up for a few reasons:
1) Nexus. This means the tablet receives updates first and with no manufacturer overlays, which is a huge plus.
2) I needed a tablet for school, and for what I need (Textbook PDFs, notetaking apps, etc) this will be perfect. Plus I've already invested in Google Docs and Drive.
3) Dat unprecedented power. Whenever custom ROMs arrive this thing is gonna be freaking phenomenal.

For those claiming that the Play Store lacks tablet apps, they have to start somewhere. The Nexus 10 is a great place to start due to the Nexus name. After all, the Nexus 7 is close to selling a million a month, and apps are becoming more and more robust to match. It's a matter of time, just like the first iPad.

To be honest I could care less about the Nexus 10, build quality seems OK at best, and there's supposedly the creaking in the back cover. Wish Asus had made the Nexus 10, maybe I would have considered it then.
