Retro City Rampage started out as a Homebrew project titled GrandTheftendo. Years later, as the project was revised for modern systems, it maintained its NES-like visuals, sound effects, and gameplay elements. It now stands as a montage to classic gaming experiences and pop-culture references for children of the 80's.

The game has been released for the PS3, Vita, and for the PC. Wii and Xbox versions are also in the works. Currently, only PC gamers have been treated to the games updates. Of which there have been many. The developer promises that a bundled Sony update will hit PSN sooner rather than later.

For those who have not been following this games progress, the updates have balanced out many missions, added tutorials, provided shop markers on the map, as well as many features and bug fixes reported to the developer's Twitter account (@RetroCR). These updates do fix a lot of what was wrong, so much so I think places like IGN who gave this a poor review should re-review the game again...however they do tend to do that for retro-y games like this.

I loved this title a lot and spent a lot of time on it however it does rely 100% on nostalgia. If you don't know what is being referenced in the game you will only get a ok game. For a one man development team it is a great achievement and I hope he can get a larger team for a sequel and do something that really is a NES take on GTA. The best parts of GTA is just going off and having some fun, making your own games and missions up, you can't quite do that with this title and that is something I'd like to see rectified with a sequel.

Personally if you like what is in the trailers and parts make you smile, you should grab it if you don't skip it.

IGN reviews games like the masses would.
COD is a 10000/10 cus of OMG GRAPHIXXX and RCR is a 1/10 cuz of bad graphix!!oneone!

I personally don't even care about "game review" sites.
Only you can really rate a game, not based on what the masses/game review sites say.

Anyway I can't wait for the XBLA version.

Unfortunately these sites matter for people who are on the fence about certain games, though if I was unsure about a game and I couldn't "try" it out I read a forum or look at readers reviews who tend to like the games I like. It would be better if they did the Famitsu approach where they get 4 reviews and then do a general score out of 40...obviously with less bias and without rating games highly by publishers who pay the most ad space.

I'd personally rather watch a lets play then read a review.
Gives me a far better opinion about a game then a wall of text with a rating.

It basically shows the game instead of just reading about it.

Also 3000th post
Could've done it on something better but meh xd

The change log does list a number of fixes that I think would help me a lot.

Though one I really wish there was a proper fix for, was that damn mission where you're supposed to blow up 20 cars in 2 minutes... I can attribute soooo many deaths to that one.

I failed that a couple of times, then I started the mission with a rocket launcher...got 20 cars in 40 seconds and passed the mission. No fix needed, there is no rule to how you do it all that is asked is that you do do it.

It still impossible to a regular gamer like me to get the Death Camera achievement right?
I wouldn't say impossible, I nearly did it but then I set myself on fire and didn't have enough time to put myself out right near the end.

Anyone looking for a challenge should look into this one and also Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams...that game is such a fucking bitch to play, has cheap deaths but you still play it regardless, I was stuck on one part for over an hour just dying over and over.
