Tales of the Heroes : Twin Brave is an action game, developed and published by Bandai Namco Games.
It was released in Japan, February 23, 2012.

This game plays very similar to Samurai Warriors, or Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Impact if you're more familiar with that... You run around in a map full of hundreds of enemies in real-time, smashing your way through them until you reach the boss of that stage. There are two playable characters from each game (Up to Tales of Xilia, for those that are curious), each with their own story mode.

I will be looking for Japanese to English translators. You can do a few misc lines of text a day or even a full section of a story mode, at your own pace. I will have the spreadsheets ready for you. Just remember that space is a factor. NO GOOGLE TRANSLATORS. I wouldn't be requesting help if that was an option, as I could do that myself. Machine translation is bad. No exceptions.

I have a blog here. I use it for daily updates and thoughts while doing the translation (basically all of the posts I make in this thread will be posted in the blog first.)

The main parts of the menu (in screenshots) that are untranslated are actually images, which I do not know how to edit. The description for EVERY option in the menu is located on the top-right corner of the screen when the option is highlighted, so this is not a problem.

Take a look at the options menu in the screenshots section of this thread. The menu on the left side is still in Japanese (since they are images, not editable text), but in the top-right corner of the same image, it tells you what that option actually does (It changes the message speed).

Some things are shortened down, as there is a character limit for each line of text. Most of the time it is perfectly readable, but if there is an abbreviation for an item or arte, it is described in that item/artes description.

Some localizations may be wrong, and if so I apologize. I have not played every single Tales Of game, so some characters and their artes are unfamiliar to me. But this is what beta testing is for! When the first patch is released, I'd appreciate if people would let me know if something should be corrected. Some artes have only been romanized for now (if there isn't an english name). These will hopefully be changed based on feedback from the Tales Of community.

Story text is my lowest priority at the moment. First I want to release a good, full menu/description patch for you guys, then I can try to get a team together to tackle the story mode.

These "prologues" or intros are the only part of the story that will be translated. The story in this game is non-canonical so it doesn't really matter. Plus, you will be able to understand what is going on through these, anyways. The face-chat text is compressed and can't be edited.

HOW TO PATCH THE GAME

Things you will need:
UMDgen
prxdecrypter
A untouched iso of Tales of the Heroes Twin Brave (also called a "clean" ISO)
DO NOT ASK WHERE YOU CAN GET THE ISO FILE. You can import the game and dump it yourself, or else you're on your own.

PART 1 (Decrypting the clean ISO)
1. Open the clean ISO in UMDgen, and extract eboot.bin from the SYSDIR folder.
2. Create a folder called "enc" on the root of your PSP memory stick. Place eboot.bin inside of "enc".
3. Run prxdecrypter from the PSP, press X when it tells you to, and the eboot.bin will be decrypted.
4. Take the decrypted eboot.bin from your memory stick and DRAG-N-DROP it into UMDgen, in the SYSDIR folder. It will ask you if you want to overwrite. Say yes.
Now the game is decrypted, and ready to run on most firmwares. SAVE AS A SEPARATE ISO FOR FUTURE USE.
Once you have this decrypted ISO, you don't need to do PART 1 again for new patch versions.

PART 2 (The actual patching process)
1. Open the decrypted ISO In UMDgen, right click on eboot.bin from the SYSDIR folder. Click "apply PPF patch to selected file".
2. Select the eboot.ppf patch, and confirm.
3. Now browse to the USRDIR folder, and right click on "namco.bdi". Click "apply PPF patch to selected file".
4. Select the namco.ppf patch, and confirm.

PART 3 (OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED)
1. Browse to PSP_GAME (root) in UMDgen. Drag pic1.png from the patch folder into PSP_GAME, and overwrite.
This will show a version number when the game is highlighted in the XMB menu. It's easier to keep track of versions this way, so it's highly recommended that you do this. If you don't then all versions will look the same in the menu, and if someone asks "What version of the patch are you using?" you won't be able to easily tell. It doesn't take any time so just do it. (;

Save it as a new iso, and you're done!

Here are the exact filesize numbers you should have for each file. If anything is not exactly as seen here, you don't have a untouched ISO or you did something wrong. You can check by right clicking the file, and then properties.
Untouched, CLEAN ISO - 1,208,178,688 bytes (size on disc 1,285,160,960 bytes)
Decrypted ISO - 1,208,178,688 bytes (size on disc 1,208,180,736 bytes)

I just finished translating more than 90% of the weapons! (The ones I haven't done yet have no localized name so they will be left in Japanese for now until someone can give them a name.)

That's going from 0% to 90% in a day (weapons).

Now I just need to insert them, which should only take a fraction of the time it did to translate. (I translate all text in a spreadsheet first, then edit it into the game after, for those curious.)

oh, and the names I already had for the weapons have been fixed. For instance, "Mashiresu Bow" in the above screenshots now says "Merciless Bow".

I actually had those right in my spreadsheet, I just mixed them up by being stupid. :| They're fixed now.

I can't wait to release the first beta so you guys can find all the little errors like that :3

I feel like I should mention that in the PS3 translation patch for Tales of Vesperia; Flynn's koushouyoku has been translated to Light Wing. Though I think that's really up to you if you want to borrow other people's translations.
I'd love to, if they don't say anything about "owning" their own translations. I can always credit them for references and stuff. But I'll see if I can ask for permission first, IDK.

There's a lot of romanized stuff for the untranslated games, but the Aselia wiki has been helping greatly.

Now that I think about it, maybe complete romanization would be better, since that is what they are speaking when they use the artes. The only problem is that it's difficult to make the shortened, list name look nice when it's romanized. Can't exactly abbreviate them either like I can with Demon Fang -> D. Fang.

I'll dwell some more on it tomorrow. Thanks for the help, Paarish!

i'm not at all interested in the game because these things get dull and repetitive for me...but this is a very pretty way to launch a topic.

10/10 would look at again.

Thank you xist. I like making things look somewhat presentable instead of just throwing words into a topic. (:

What do you guys think about these? All artes will be romanized, then IF they have an english name (or whenever anyone comes up with one that fits well) it will be entered after, in the description of the arte. Looks a lot better than having some names english, some romaji, that's for sure.

I think it'd look better the other way, english name listed but romanized in description, I say this because it's easier for english speakers to recognize and remember moves that way, but that probably won't be a problem in the long run. I don't suspect many people will be complaining about it anyway, and it's not like this is a professional translation. Not sure how big the character limit is though.

It depends on each string of text. Each japanese character takes the space of two english letters.
If there are six japanese characters in a name, I can use twelve english characters.
If there's only two characters, I have to somehow fit it into 4 letters. But it's very rare that something is that short.

Doing the reverse would leave too many inconsistencies just because there are so much un-localized artes out there.
But hey, at the end of this I'm totally willing to make two separate versions of the patch for each naming convention. It won't be that much work to switch them later.
