According to GameSpot, they state that the Xbox apps Facebook and twitter are going to be removed for more encouragement to Gamers to use the new Internet Explorer Web Browser.
In my opinion this is just stupid. First they put effort in creating the app.. And then they do this? IE sucks! Oh well I don't even go on YouTube Facebook or twitter on my PS3 or my Xbox because things are personal and private. So i don't give a shit, but say this is stupid. IF THIS IS TRUE.

Multiple sources say social networking apps nixed from latest dashboard update to spur gamers to use new browser.

''Gamers who have downloaded the newest Xbox 360 dashboard update may have noticed that the Facebook and Twitter applications are missing. Multiple sources reportedly familiar with Microsoft's plans have told The Verge that this was done to spur gamers to use the new Internet Explorer browser included with the update.''
A possibility though.

It's integrated in the IE webbrowser.

And yep.
Nowadays people want to EVERYTHING connected to facebook.

Next up.
Coffeemachine that sends messages to your boss on FB when you make a cup.
Your spoon will update your FB on how hot the coffee is.

Personally it's fucking ridiculous that it's integrated to pretty much fucking everything.
But who am I to say that?
If I don't go along with it then I'm a old geezer that lives in the past apperantly.
*grabs walking cane and waves it*
Get off off my non integrated natural lawn you bloody kids!

Do people really use Internet browsers (let alone Facebook & Twitter) on home consoles?
I always use my smartphone or even go to my room and use my PC if I need to surf the interwebs.
Of course that does not mean everyone does the same as me. It's just... I don't know, using a
controller is painfully slower than using touch or a mouse + keyboard.

Facebook/Twitter in an App < Facebook/Twitter in an internet browser.

IE may not be the best browser on the PC, but on the XBox it's not too shabby compared to what the competition offers, or so I've heard. I don't see why anyone should condemn Microsoft before actually trying out the browser.

Prejudice is the only thought that most gamers have. That's why there is fanboyism.

I always use my smartphone

I have no qualms with most of what you said (hence most of it being trimmed) but I should point out that it was not so long ago that using your phone for internet was something of a desperate move (and I am not even talking about WAP).

Indeed!
Also, as we remember, being connected was not much of a necessity as it is now, both our need to be connected and technology have been rapidly
changing for these last years. And as such I cannot stop to think this was a late move by MS. Not because most users have multiple devices to, "be connected"
but also because the competitors have had use of an internet browser since their humble beginnings.

I may be mistaken, but this is probably mostly going to be used as an 'emergency system' rather than the application of choice by the users.

I actually agree. The browser on the Xbox isn't too bad. It is missing a few features that are rather useful, but other than that, it's not bad. However, encouraging people to use the browser for Twitter and FB? I'd rather use the app, although I don't use my gaming consoles to update my status.

Previous versions of IE seems to have left a bad taste in people's mouths. Honestly, IE10 (or at even IE9) is a vast improvement over the previous versions and is on par with its competitors. It even passes the Acid3 test now.

Before we get into a IE bonfire, do realize that current mobile web browsers are current shit and getting a straight Internet Explorer port would be leagues better than any mobile/"lite" web browser.

That being said, I haven't tried it on the Xbox so I can't attest. I never found the apps though to be that useful, the console is tethered to the home so you might as well update it on your PC or smartphone. It's faster and just easier.

But a straight port of Chrome would kill the port of IE.

In what sense? IE9 is actually a pretty good web browser, it's just that people tend to shy away from it due to various reasons. My reason being that it does not have the noscript and Adblock Plus plugins that I've come to like.
