How to properly burn Xbox 360 games

A question I get a lot about Xbox 360 flashes is "How do I burn games"? Well, in this guide I will be showing you all the materials required and steps needed in order to properly burn a Xbox 360 for use with a flashed console.

Requirements:
Dual-layer DVD burner
RAR extracting software (WinRAR, RAR Expander, etc.)
ImgBurn
abgx360
Flashed Xbox 360 console (Preferably with latest hacked DVD firmware, LT+ 1.1)
A blank DVD+R DL
Backup or downloaded game

OK, first make sure you have a game downloaded or backed up. If you download a game, it will most likely be in split RAR files, like this:

Now, open the first part (.rar or .r00) and extract the game to your folder of choice. After it finishes extracting, you want to patch it with abgx360. Open abgx, and select your ISO. Set the AutoFix Threshold to level 2 at first. If the game patches with errors, such as unverified PFI or DMI, then set the AutoFix threshold to level 3 and try again. Under the Misc tab, select the region of any and all consoles you will be playing the game on. After you have everything set properly, hit the Launch button. You should see a screen like this:

Now its time to burn the game! Open ImgBurn, and select Write image file to disc. Go to Tools\Settings\, and select the write tab. Click on User Specified for Layer Break, and set it to 1913760. This is crucial, if this is not set the game will not burn properly or play on your 360.

Set your burning speed to 2.4x or 4.0x, depending on what speeds your burner support. 2.4x is preferable. Browse for your game and choose the .dvd file, not the .iso. The game will not burn properly if you burn the .iso. Now click the picture of the file to disc. Your game is burning! Wait until it finishes, and if you did everything right, you should have a working 360 backup!

Question: Should you put all of the other LT Firmwares? People with older Hitachis (Like me) May get confused on what firmware to use. I know that sounds a bit picky, but just saying.

I recommend looking up auto-xbins and downloading all available firmwares for drives. You never know what drive you might have, or who might be willing to pay you for a flash.

Websites useful to people who view this thread:

It is a good idea to read up on what is going on in the scene right now, especially with the Slim being hackable and XGD3 discs coming out. Good luck!

That f***ing description was so misleading. it states "Tutorials for other "alternative" consoles". Why not the 360? Bullshit.

Hey calm down, I did the same thing as you. I made a PS2 FMCB guide and FAQ, but Costello said that it wasn't part of the comp, but said it was a great guide nonetheless.

You made a great guide, I think that is what's best.

This step is unnecessary if you burn using the .dvd file and not just the .iso. The correct layerbreak is stored in the .dvd file.

i'd recommend just having the guide to say always set autofix to level 3 for abgx360 even if no errors show up in level 2 it's best to always run it at level 3 so you don't have to run abgx360 twice, it's just more efficient that way.
and just to be extra safe you should also say to check the tab for checking for anydvd style game data corruption, in my personal experience some older 360 games i have download have been plagued with this.
also in ImgBurn you should recommend burning using only games with a .dvd file for 360 games, and i understand somewhat setting speed to 2.4x and 4.0x but leaving AWS(automatic write speed) set in IMGBurn has never given me a bad burn and that's even on 8x rated Memorex DVD+R DL.

You have an XGD3.

You'll need an iHAS to burn it fully or select Truncate or Overburn.
It's fine for most games but you'll lose HDD install.
Forza 4 is a game that CANNOT safely be overburned.
IT WILL FLAG YOUR CONSOLE!

So if i get the ihas burner, things work fine? i just read that it's supposed to burn games "better"

Yes.

Those will burn the new XGD3 games to the disc without any data loss.
Edit: they will burn the entire ISO to the disc.
I tried overburning and it gave me an I/O error of sorts.
A friend of mine that also has a flashed xbox, a phat though, said he didn't have any of this kind of errors when burning

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero
