Activision temporarily pulls Favela Multiplayer map from Modern Warfare 2 after users find holy writings in the map's bathroom.
To be honest, I think this was good, being a Muslim myself, I find it offensive to find verses from the Quran with a frame, in a washroom. No one has any sign of our God in the washroom, for purposes, that anyone can understand. Although they said that they have temporarily removed it, but when they remove that texture, the map will be back up running again. The written sentence was "Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty". In a dirty environment, where you poo and pee, it's just awful, and I don't need to say the rest, cause you guys understand.

.... we understand?! what the fuck? i don't give 1 bit where they portray my (christian) god, if it's in a jailcell or in a toilet, I don't care. I won't start threatening people or attacking embassies of a stupid cartoon or movie too, where they might attack or disgrace my god.
how would we understand, and why should we even understand the muslim actions when their god gets disgraced. this is just pathetic, ridiculous reason to change the map, no one should be offended by that, just a joke

That's only fair, be it a mistake or deliberate action to offend people, any people, it really should be rectified.
I mean actually offend, not poke fun at.

I'm glad that both sides are being totally rational about this.

.... we understand?! what the fuck?

You presume FAR too much, read the article and see that nobody is going mad about this, and that there is an actual basis for their claim.
From the article: "YouTube user KhaleDQ84EveR points out in a video that two paintings are hung in the map's bathroom that feature a quote from the Muslim prophet Muhammad, which reads "Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty." He explains that it is forbidden for Islamic holy teachings to be featured in bathrooms and sought an apology from Infinity Ward, as well as the removal of the content."

As an atheist and someone who doesn't play call of duty....meh.

I don't see why it should be removed though, nothing is immune to criticism.

Keep this civil, guys. The first one that goes over the line will have a nice vacation from GBAtemp.
Well that took a long time :P

But hey, I'm with zalda, this is just ridiculous :/

Be it in a virtual bathroom or a real world one, I'd understand if anybody of any faith or even lack of, would ask for considerate action to be taken if they deem anything to be offensive with reasonable claim and good cause.

Sorry but excuse me? So basically, even though this is a video game, lets say that the cross was in the washroom (I respect all religions, whether nice, or disgraceful to my religion, and I know this is JUST A GAME), in a stinky, and dirty washroom with shit all over the place, how would you feel? That's disrespectful, you're supposed to have respect of any sign of religion and faith.

If their teachings deem this offensive, they should loosen up the teachings. Just absurd IMHO, to take something or yourself so serious, lol.

Through the very little that I do actually understand about the muslim faith I know this will be perceived as a grave injustice. IMO not being religious or anything I don't quite get the big deal, I mean I'm sure (to some degree) christian/catholic beliefs are ridiculed within muslim culture why is it any different for western society to do the same.

But I get it if its offended people get rid, but as I said IMO take it as what it is, its not intentional, it was to try and make it authentic, don't take it personal

Perhaps it's because i'm not religious, but I really never understand why people take religion SO seriously.
Same thing is happening with Smite and Hinduism. They're freaking out over how Kali is portrayed.

I can understand if it was some serious, heavy slander, but just little pokes (like this) or some portrayals (like Smite), there's really nothing to get upset over. It's just a game. The Fire Temple music from OOT would be another good example.

I agree, Activision made the right decision this time. (for once)

Honestly, I don't understand why people are so riled up about this topic, however. I'm happy that Activision is respecting the wishes of people who are offended by it, considering it is such as sensitive topic at this time, but honestly, why are others even concerned about it? They're going to remove the texture from Favela and put it back in the rotation soon. People shouldn't be complaining seeing that it's going to be put back in the game after some time; it's a 3 year old game, it's not going to affect gamers THAT much.

Well, that YOUR own opinion. Others have their own ideas and beliefs, so you should respect theirs' as well.

I'll start off the "BUT IT'S JUST A QUOTE" discussion.

Yeah, it is just a quote (to me. I know it is held holy to people of Muslim influence). So if IW takes the map offline for a few days to remove it, is it REALLY going to change anyone's life for the worse? If someone is going to miss a picture frame in a bathroom of a CoD map, you need to get outside more.

If it makes a large pool of players satisfied that something offensive to their religion was rectified, then hell, I can respect that. As long as everyone stays cool about it, well, just wait for the map to come back up in a few days. :toot:

You think they would have dome some research first. Unless someone on the team Meant it
I could see how they could make a mistake like this.
Maybe they just reused a generic asset, people pull things they need from all sorts of places, stock image resources, sometimes Google images.
Maybe the original picture came from a hotel bedroom or something, and they put it in a bathroom scene without realising the actual context that would result.

Or worst case scenario, somebody on the team did this deliberately, I hope not.

It's not so much about the bathroom being "stinky and dirty" as it is that having religious text in the bathroom is frowned upon in Islam.

This removal of this has no negative effect to any regular non-Muslim COD player so I don't know why you guys are bitching.

Well, it's being temporarily removed, and I don't think people here should really make a big deal about it, we Muslim's have reasons, and we know that, 90% of this forum probably wont understand, but it was a honest mistake by Infinity ward, so just let it be, and let it go, it'll remove, and it's over.
