A long long long time ago (2002) there was an attempt to port GTA 3 to a NES and was called Grand Theftendo, it was quite long in development and they even got it running on a NES however development came to a pause and nothing happened. Then the person behind that announced that he moved on to moving this title into a new game entitled Retro City Rampage which took the concept and expanded it to something much larger. That game was also in development for a very long time and has been delayed a lot too, however this is the work of mainly one person who also has a job!

Yesterday it was announced that my most anticipated game of the year (originally due in Summer) is to be released on PC (Steam, GoG) and PSN on October 9th! Sadly WiiWare and XBLA versions won't hit until later in the year, it had been thought that the delay was due to a certain service being very restrictive however the developer still carried on adding stuff to the game regardless. The developer however on various Facebook comments has said that Sony very extremely helpful especially with Vita development. By the way, if you own both a PS3 and a Vita than you will only need to buy this once to play it on both. :yaypsp:

Outside of pop culture references like Ninja Turtles, Back to the Future and gaming references like Mario, Metal Gear, Mega Man, Bionic Commando as well as many others, there will be some official cameos from Splosion Man and Super Meat Boy:

There'll also be various display options such as CGA/EGA PC mode, Gameboy, C64, Windows 3.1 as well as others:

This was one of those games for which I said I would drop ANY game released in the future for and I still stand by that! I pre-ordered this back in February and I can't wait to sink all my time into it next week, find it hard to believe that this title is coming out!

Do not forget that if you buy the ps3 version you get the Vita version for free, as it a cross buy title, so BOTH versions for $14.99

I think that they can use the same save for both versions and then share the trophies and achievements (in game ones).

Seems like a great game, but $15 seems to be a bit on the steep side. Still, it seems really interesting.
Really? The amount of content put into this it seems like a very good bargain! I mean people would pay £49.99 for a game with 7 hours worth of gameplay and yet this promises so much more and only cost me £6.99.

Same with buying a DVD/Blu-Ray, you'd normally only get 4+ hours if you're lucky and they costs £9.99 at least and even then the content is only worth watching once.

I'd like to play a demo of this before buying... I want to like it, I want to love it... and make love to it. BUT, I really have a hard time playing the original GTA. And I don't know why. So I really hope that this doesn't feel the same for me :O

I checked the grandtheftendo site for years hoping for a release, preordered this game when I first saw it. Then found out it was the guy behind grandtheftendo.

I remember following this project when it was still NES homebrew... must've been in the seventh or eighth grade then. Glad to see that his project became something so big for him :)

Duke nukem forever, Black mesa, and now Retro City Rampage, we're running out of games in indefinite development to reference.

I hope this is one of those projects that turns out better due to its long development time and not one of those that suffers because of it.

I have been waiting for this game for a long long time. I'm debating on getting it on 3DS or Vita though.
I've neither seen nor heard any news of the game coming to 3DS...it's PC, PSN(PS3/Vita), WiiWare(Wii) and XBLA(XBOX 360) only.
Dunno if you're privy to information the rest of the gaming community is not or if you're on something, but I think you may be mistaken.

I might be mistaken. I'll probably be getting it on Vita then.

Not the rampage title I would buy...Where are the giant mutant animals rampaging buildings into the ground?
Do you think the same gameplay could work if we gave it open-world? You know, free roam rampage around New York or something? That should be bloody fun. Like Katamari Damashii, except you're not rolling around (well, you could, if the monster can) but smashing things around. And I'd like to see new players, like giant aliens or maybe Cthulhu.

Wow... That looks so freaking awesome. The GameBoy view is so cool... Unfortunately I don't know what system to get it for.

Don't feel too bad you still have Square Enix to depend on with Versus FF XIII and Kingdom Hearts 3.

There have actually been a few titles like that in the past already.

the C64-game "The Movie Monster Game"

the PSN title Eat Them!

on PS2 you have War of the Monsters

and finally on Neo Geo you have King of the Monsters 1 & 2

So there have been a few games that have dabbled into both of what your talking about, some limited areas to fight in and some being pretty much open world, only with a set time to do destruction.

Retro City... Rampage?

It's good to see this game claw its way out of development hell, Duke Nukem Forever-style. Hopefully the results will be leagues better.

There's no plans for a 3DS version, there was only a Vita version at the last minute because the guy found it extremely easy to port over from PS3. He's not ruled out a 3DS or even Android/iOS & Wii U versions though.

While I already have the Steam version pre-ordered, I'll definitely try the WiiWare one as well when that comes out, it's supposed to have "Nintendo content" planned for it that the other versions won't have.

Oh yeah, here is a car inspired by a certain Nintendo ape:

It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
