I recently advertised a charity group with a link to a facebook page, I took the page down after posting it here because I was only looking for first reactions, they were mixed and I think it was miss understood what the goal was. In this topic I was like you to share your opinion on whether you think this is a good idea and something that may be something people would support.

Okay:

So basically me and my team were looking into ways to raise money for charity. We looked what other people are doing and have done, and we saw the Everest climb. We thought that the Everest climb or something like that is something big enough to show what we are willing to do the raise charity, and also grab enough interest and attention to raise a lot. Although the Everest climb is dangerous it is something that is worth doing to raise the money. After discussing it we decided that climbing Everest to begin with without any real experience is more stupid than courageous. So we came up with a way to fix it by getting some experience on some of the smaller mountains first. We would climb the seven peaks and start with the smallest first. The real advantage to doing all seven is that if we can raise the money to fund the first climb, we can then try to raise more money during the climb and reach a bigger total. After climbing the first one we, if we raise enough, use some of the money to fund the next climb and give the rest to charity. Then on the next climb do the same again, try to raise money and then use some to pay for the next one and give the rest to charity and so one until the end. This way we can continue to raise money as we go and eventually raise raised more money than we would have on a single climb.

Also if we get to the point where we has raised a lot and have done all seven, we could keep all the money until the end and then provide a poll to those who have donated asking them what charity they would like to see the money go to. After the polls are in, split the total into the percentages and then pay it to the charities.

So what do you think, worth a donation in the future when everything is put together or more tweaks needed, or scrap the whole idea?

We didnt understand, you just cant advertise here.

If you are looking for ways to raise money for charity, I mean there are tons of ways. But a "gaming" focused community might not be your best bet. Unless you open a thrift/second hand gaming shop that puts the money towards charity.

Im sure others can come up with better ideas that me.

We looked at the prices and there is a massive deductions for teams with 7 or more, $10,000 per person. We want to be able to afford that on our wn but may have to ask for donations to get us that money. If there is a way to pay for it ourselves we would rather do it that way and then start raising once to are already going.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why waste all that money on mountain climbing to begin with? It seems like the whole mountain climbing part can be cut, or at least replaced with something that would require a whole lot less money.

The mountain climbing or something equivalent was an idea because we feel that if your willing to so something more extreme you will get more support.

Thanks BortzANATOR for the avatar and complimenting the name, ill use it from now on :). We understand that Everest is no joke and would not be something to sign up for halfhearted. We've been doing the research and have looked at what will be required of us, and although it is not something any of us could do tomorrow it is something that we will put our everything into to get to a point where it is achievable. I use the word organisation as opposed to charity because using the phase charity would imply that 100% raised would go to charity, whereas we would rather see it as a organisation or company that uses its donations to be able to set up events, because we have no additional funding, and be able to then raise more, for charity. For example using a portion of what is raised from Everest to then be able to set up something else, and then give the remainder to charity or some other causes. It is essentially a charity organisation, but we don't want to stop at Everest, we want to use some of the money to do more, they say it takes money to make money and if we can, we will try to continue raising. We want to be able to create our own organisation and be able to make it a full time job for us to be able to put the money to good causes, whether it be existing charities or our own causes. That is the eventual goal, but we feel that even if we only climb Everest that will be a good enough achievement and that is all we are trying to focus on at this moment in time. That and of course gaining the support and raising the money to be able to get the ball rolling.
