So this is a second hand PSP, it already came with the custom firmware PRO-B10 6.60.

So I found that the Skype icon was not appearing, PSN works fine, everything is great, I can see some apps, installed some random internet app, in the USB viewer I can see the skype files. But the icon doesn't appear in the XMB.

So I removed PRO-B10 and installed PRO-C, everything is good, but the icon is still missing.

I removed PRO-C and tried to run Sony's firmware, it says I already have 6.60 installed.

What can I do to get skype here? It's a PSP 1001, I think it's slim.. I could be wrong.

Help, anyone?

PSP 1001 is the Phat PSP, as for your problem try re-installing it, that is if you know where to get the file, it might be an older version of it so therefore buggy. Re-install it and if that doesn't work it might be that it's incompatible with the firmware or something along the lines of that.

thanks for the quick reply.
I don't know how to re install 6.60 firmware from sony, I got the files. But when I execute the patch from "games" it says "there is no need to update"
If you mean the Pro-C firmware, I reinstalled it a couple times and the icon won't appear.
It's funny how the Skype files are there, they are kinda big like 180 mb, but there's no icon, maybe it's the fact that it's the phat PSP after all.

No prob and not the Sony files I meant the Skype files but don't worry I've found a link for you I'll PM you the link. The link I'm gonna send you is a version for the Phat PSP. The audio quality is still a little buggy but fully operational for use. The rest of the post will have information for you. If you need any help installing it just message me.

^If you're talking about Furikup then there's little point.

VoIP on a 1000 is a non starter in functional terms thanks to the smaller RAM.

Agreeing with xist and Janthran here, Skype is available stock only on PSP's with 64MB RAM and a Wi-Fi module, meaning series 2000, 3000 and Go. The PSP 1000 and the PSP E-1000 do not support it, the 1000 may through Homebrew means, but it's not very useful due to technical limitations.

Why would someone use skype on PSP? Wifi only, no mic and really hard to write. Get smartphone which has constantly updated and more userfriendly version. Android phones are cheaper than cheap these days and internet contract costs couple euros per month.

The PSP 3000 and Go have built-in microphones, not that it matters since all 3 models which support Skype have headset support, which is the prefered method of input. PSP's Skype does not support text messages, so I'm not sure why you bring typing up as an issue. This combined with your nick choice leads me to believe that you don't even have a PSP and never used the Skype function, which begs the question "what are you even doing here?".

I do own PSP 2000 and never actually realised it does have headset port (I though it was audio out only) nor used it's skype more than logged in once. It still needs wifi which is much harder to use when moving compared to 3G/4G.
I don't want to flame here but ask yourself: Skype PSP 1000 with homebrew or official constantly updated version with better hardware? 2000 and up it may be usable but you would need stable wifi. Besides decent used android phone costs only ~40e these days and also has txt, video chat, you can use your contact list and it runs bacground if you get calls from it.
I actually started using g-talk more becouse it doesn't drain battery almost at all as skype seems to drink it up fast.

Well, the OP wanted Skype on the PSP, so that's the answer he received.

Of course there are better platforms for it, but that's not what the original question was about. :P

okay yeah,
typical thread where someone asks for something hard, and people disregard the question or something saying "who would do that anyway"
Everyone has their reasons for their stuff, I personally found PSP's skype function to be useful, when trying it out in a friend's PSP 2000 or something.
It's wifi yes, but over here it's not "smart" to use a 3g smartphone on the streets, given the social situation we're in.

All in all, it's fun to see people discuss and insult each other, so whatever.
Thanks to everyone who helped and also to everyone who posted. Goodbye.

The reason it's not appearing is because it's not supported on the 1000, because the 1000 has half the RAM of the later models.

Thus all the discussion after that was pointed out as about something different, a homebrew version.
