Ok so i had a chance to play the resident evil 6 demo tonight and i wanna talk about it. (twitter didnt have enough room to talk about it so im posting this)

First of all, i tried the leon level and right off the bat it kicks in with an awesome cutscene where leon is faced with a difficult decision then we kick off into what feels like your typical resident evil game. We're in a mansion, its creepy and leon has some awesome new moves, the dive on the floor and crawl whilst shooting feature is AWESOME, i really cant stress enough how cool that is. Overall feel to this chapter of the game is good, enough to satisfy fans of old resident evils and keeping fairly closely to the formula that has worked in 4 and 5 whilst keeping the general feel of the originals like 2/3 with creepy corridors and a quietish area to explore.

Then.... i tried the other 2 levels.

Firstly, why the hell do almost ALL the zombies have guns? i dont know the story yet and honestly im scared to know since it seems that zombies have been watching alot of call of duty and seem to realise that shooting our heroes is more effective than.... y'know, eating their faces. Both levels feel like a cross between gears of war and call of duty and in one death a zombie came up to me and slit my throat with a sword he was carrying (something zombies arnt known to do)

I have played almost every resident evil game and even tho 4 and 5 are somewhat lacking the feel of the originals, they still feel like resident evil games. 6 is just a cash in, using the resident evil name to coax people into buying what is essentially ANOTHER call of duty game.

This is obviously my opinion and i welcome other views but to me, resident evil is dead.

You make a pretty decent point, resident evil is no longer a horror game like back in the psx days. Does that mean I don't enjoy it? Nope, I still love the series. However they really seem to be cashing in more on action then they are on what made the game the legacy it is today. I mean come on, where are my dogs crashing through windows?

They're not zombies, they're bioweapons.

I don't see how the game is anything like Gears of War or Call of Duty. People see there's a cover system and it's instantly Gears of War. If it's actiony, it's instantly Call of Duty.

Honestly this is just terribly wrong. The game is nothing like Call of Duty, people just really love saying "IT'S COD" because it attracts a very generic hatred.

in this game they are not zombies, they are terrorists that inject themselves with the virus, there is a cutscene in the jake scenario that shows this, that is why they use guns and all sorts, still i know what you mean it's not a typical zombie game but it's a ok game.

capcom will never go back to the survival horror aspect that made the series so popular they even said so themselves, the series is just a dead horse at this stage.

you don't even get the mercenaries mode included with the game, you have to buy it separate, what a RIP.

Its not just the cover system, the 2nd area with jake and sherry is a long road, with several things you can hide behind and all of the zombies have either guns or katanas, i died twice in that area, the first death a zombie/bow jumped on top of me and shot me point blank in the face and the 2nd (as i mentioned before) he jumped on top of me and positioned his katana on my throat and slit my throat.

^ This is not what i buy a resident evil game for. I want creepy corridors, not knowing when an enemy will show up, not "defend the guy whilst he plants a bomb from a bunch of zombies (with guns)" which is seriously one of the objectives in the demo.

This game might be great, god knows its one of the few games that actually includes split-screen co-op for the main game and thats so rare these days but i think its insulting that they call it "resident evil 6" when a more apropriate title would be "call of duty: zombie time"

I enjoyed the demo and will still be picking it up.
Only thing I didn't like is when I came across a body that didn't quite look dead, I'd shoot it to make sure it was dead and wouldn't attack but the shots don't register. Then as you get closer or try to run past it it just suddenly attacks me. Total bs.
Also the graphics seem to have taken a hit from 5.

yeah i hate that, you can't shoot them beforehand, only when certain events trigger can you shoot them after, it is BS, you should at least be able to melee them.

Gamespot review of this is out. They gave it 4.5 and didnt even go into much discussion about the fact the zombies had guns or the fact there is a frigging "plane" section where you aparently shoot at a giant battleship, ala battlefield. (they even show a video of it)

Then they spoke most about the fact the game is all about quicktime and bad camara angles and cutscenes taking over. Plus they went into alot of details about the game that sounded awful and said the graphics and voice acting were about the only things saving this game from being lower ranked.

I knew this game was going to be bad from the demo and whilst not everyone agrees with gamespot's review system, a game with such hype as resident evil 6 much be really bad for them to give it such a low score. I am now convinced this game is not worth buying at all.

If interested, you can read what they said about it here = review

From what I've played of the actual game. I'd give it a 8/10. Liking it overall. I'm sure anyone with a flashed 360 would agree. Although I have heard some complaints about the camera angles.

Lots of people are hating on the graphics but from what I played of the demo, Leon's campaign level seemed a step down from Resi 5, but Chris' seemed on par if not better (gfx-wise).
Resi 6 seems to be even more geared towards mp and obviously lower res textures load faster, but to say the graphics are plain bad and 'suck' is absurd.

I've seen the same thing happening with gameplay videos of the upcoming 'Dishonored', entitled gamers bashing the graphics when there is nothing bad about them at all.

Gave the demo a go, somewhat early, as a 2-day trial Gold member on XBL (thanks Vulpy!)

Anyway, the demo was okay. I didn't have a ridiculous amount of fun with it, but it was by no means boring, either.

Leon's campaign was the most interesting. A nice blend of light horror and action. The dark, eerie campus/city atmosphere really harkens back to the golden RE2/RE3 days of yore. Wasn't at all difficult in the demo, although I did run out of ammo once, briefly (maybe you do actually have to conserve ammo in this game after all!). That "car" QTE/cutscene, though.. that was just weird.

Chris' campaign was probably the most unappealing to me. It was a straight up military shooter scenario, and I actually ran past a number of enemies into a new checkpoint, in which the enemies behind me just disappeared and the backup BSAA tanks rolled in and started firing at nothing. Seriously, JUST LIKE something I would see in a Modern Warfare title. The mini-boss thing was pretty cool, though, reminded me of House of the Dead titles (taking on giant, massive, mutated undead creatures by shooting at a weakpoint). I actually almost died once in this scenario, because I tried to explore in an area where I thought one of the other 5 AI would back me up in. That one-man-army feel, just like MW. :(

Jake's was pretty fun but it was, by far, the hardest scenario for me. I died twice before completion. This is the only scenario I noticed that features the standard enemies becoming "chrysalis-type" enemies after you initially kill them. And, ho boy, are the chrysalis enemies a handful, especially when you have a fuckton of them running around at once. Sherry's AI kept getting bodied for some reason, and I had to come in and help, instead of vice-versa, when I really needed the backup. The banter between Sherry and Jake was wonderful, though, I expect the dialogue and story in their campaign to be pretty interesting.

A few other things:

- At first I was pretty pissed that you could melee the shit out of zombies without any worry. Seeing Leon suplex a zombie to death looked cool at first... but then I remembered that I was playing Resident Evil. Eventually, I learned that (in Leon's campaign, anyway) melee-ing zombies starts to wear your character down, and you can't do it too often. There is a stamina meter, actually, and if you do it too much, you fall into the red. This makes Leon start to stumble, walk really slow, and overall makes it a pain to get anywhere fast. I read that a lot of people have been saying that Jake is a melee-heavy character, but I didn't really melee a lot of things while playing his scenario.

- The camera in the demo is just plain awful. It's literally up your ass, on your back. Would've made the demo feel a million times better if they pulled that shit back. I guess you can tweak it, marginally, in the options for the demo, but I didn't look into it. I heard that it was fixed in the final game, though.

- While playing through Leon, I noticed that if you walk over a dead body, Leon stumbles forward a bit while holding down his gun. I guess the intentions were to make the game a bit better with this, but not when you walk over every dead body, and not when you're in an area with a LOT of dead bodies. I also heard that this is still present in the final game and has some people annoyed.

Overall, it was nice. I still have it on pre-order, the demo didn't make me change my mind about that. My expectations aren't too high, but we'll see how it goes.

you don't even get the mercenaries mode included with the game, you have to buy it separate, what a RIP.
This is a common misconception. Mercs is a part of the final game, but there are a handful of maps that are pre-order DLC, exclusive to different retailers across multiple countries, depending on where you buy the game from. I imagine that most, if not all, of these maps will be put up as paid DLC to those that didn't pre-order. The final game still ships with Mercs and a hefty number of maps out of the box, though. EDIT: More information about the different editions, worldwide, and what you receive with your pre-order can be found HERE

Only thing I didn't like is when I came across a body that didn't quite look dead, I'd shoot it to make sure it was dead and wouldn't attack but the shots don't register. Then as you get closer or try to run past it it just suddenly attacks me. Total bs.
I noticed this too. I think its actually intentional, but completely dumb and unrealistic. And I don't mean unrealistic as in "this game should be a realistic interpretation of the undead rising up and biting all of our heads off durr". I mean, basic realism: if you shoot it while it's down, it should react. If it doesn't die, at least make it groan or jump up, or react in SOME WAY.

I had some time with it the other day and lets just say I no longer care if the PC port ever comes out.

I've not enjoyed a proper entry since RE4, RE5 was just boring (I tried so many times to get into it) and I can't say I enjoyed Revelations as much as everyone else did.

I guess this'll be the next series to get a reboot. ;)

I had fun from the demo, but Resident Evil has never been a "must have" franchise for me so IDGAF for this as much as Asscreed III this month.

Come to think of it there's like three games that come to mind that I actually care about in the next year.

Anyway I do find there's a lot of pent up anger over saying "It's CoD" which is just rather bullshitty since it is nothing like CoD other than the fact that there's guns.

The cameras are so annoying.
So true. Cannot tell you how many times I got hit because the camera was pointed to something else. The cemetery with the lightning with the camera zooming to the enemies with you off screen and watching what a switch does while you stand there unable to defend yourself are the biggest offenders, is it really that hard to make the player invulnerable for a duration, maybe have time stop or something. If you think it is about skill it isn't the camera just points to something so your off screen and defenseless.
