Hacking Just received my 2nd PSP Psp freeze+ turns off

Received my 2nd hand psp.

I tried the game it came with motogp I raced one race seemed fine.

Then I played my own backup dragonball shin budokai 1. Tried the story mode. PSP turns off. WTF??

I try again now I try Arcade mode, the fight shows Ready ETC. Then as it's about to start freezes screen for like 3 secs then turns off

What is going on did I buy a defective PSP?

It says system software 6.39 ME-9.6 Shouldn't matter right?

Also it came with a 1 GB pro duo card. Dragonball tenkaichi is like 1.2-1.3 so it won't fit. Are there solutions out there that can make my single 32 GB micro SD fit into a Produo solution so it can acces it?

1. Black screen + Turn-off is a common issue on PSP's and it can be caused by a variety of things.
2. You might want to consider updating to PRO-C, ME is kinda MEh in comparison.
3. You could buy an SD adapter for the PS2, there are numerous available, some even with twin-slots, however nobody can guarantee their seemless operation. MSPD is always the recommended storage device, however adapters are cheap enough, so you could try one out.
4. If you're experiencing such issues, the first thing you should do is attempt formatting your MSPD - it may be a stick issue. What's the brand of your stick?

I got a Psp slim 2004 I think. with just a 1 gb memory stick pro duo SOny /MagicGate.

I should follow this I guess: Thought this part is a bit vague to me Your PSP should restart into hacked mode. This will last until your PSP is shut fully off. Does thatmean turn your psp off after it restarts?

What settings should I use to format Memorystick pro duo? File system cluster size etc.

f you are not yet on 6.60...

• Download 6.60 official firmware (for PSP 100X/200X/300X) or (for PSP Go).
• Place the UPDATE folder into /PSP/GAME/ on your memory stick (or the Go's internal storage). If the eboot.pbp file is not in a folder named "UPDATE", then re-name (or create) the folder.
• Run the 6.60 update on your PSP and allow it to install.

Now to install the hack!

• Download 6.60 PRO (Latest Version)
• Copy the folders in there straight onto your PSP's memory stick (or Go's internal storage).. If you're asked to merge the folders, say yes.
• Run 6.60 PRO Updater on your PSP, and press X to install.
• Your PSP should restart into hacked mode. This will last until your PSP is shut fully off (sleep mode is okay). To hack it again quickly, run the Fast Recovery to get back into 6.60 PRO.
• (OPTIONAL) To test or install the 6.60 permanent patch, run the CIPL Flasher on your PSP. Again, remember that this only works on the PSP 1000 and earlier 2000 models.

Righty-o - you're one of the lucky ones and you got yourself a PSP-200x - that's good, there's no better "hackable" model out there.

First and foremost, check your Data Code - remove the battery and look for the serial number on the sticker inside the compartment. Under it, there should be a Data Code - it consists of a number and a letter. If it's under or equal to 8B (lower number/earlier letter in the alphabet), go ahead and install the 6.60 Sony OFW following the guide.

If it is 8C or higher, install 6.20 Sony OFW and follow the guide.

Next, download the corresponding PRO updater and follow installation instructions. After that, you should be up-to-date which should eliminate most firmware-related issues.

Finally, apply the cIPL Patch if you're on the early PSP-200x or the Perm Patch if you're on the later one. Alternatively, you can use Fast Recovery rather than a permanent patch.

Rydian's guide is very thorough and you shouldn't have any issues executing the installations if you follow it, you're in good hands.

7C is fine - it's lower than 8B.

I missed that 6.39 part, sorry - indeed there's no reason to install 6.20, especially since you can use cIPL. Normally people sometimes choose to downgrade their firmware to 6.20, since it can use the Perm Patch, but that doesn't apply to you.

Ok I extract the 6.60 update to psp/game/ update

I look in first meny systemupdate. It ask me internet or storage device.

Storagedevice, I see 6.60 I press update OK.

It loads. and gives me error this game cannot be started 80020148

THE **** always bullshit . NEVER goes right. What to do?

Maybe 6.39ME blocks updates from running? In that case, you may have to use a special program to go back to OFW first. I remember having to use it because the old 5.50GENs set the version to 9.90. And if you placed it in the correct folder you may not need to go to the update menu, you should be able to run it like any other game IIRC.

If the update is in the correct path, it should pop up in the game menu - you don't have to and in fact shouldn't access it from the System menu. 6.39 doesn't block updates, don't be ridiculous. It's possibly a stick issue which can be resolved with formatting or his download is corrupt. Retry for effect, it has to work - it's an original Sony binary.

It doesn't popup in game menu. It says shin budokai and another icon with something about damaged data. H:\PSP\GAME\Update\EBOOT.PBP Is the exact path I use.

Just reformatted stick + redownloaded firmware. it says damaged data in the game section. I try update section it tries to update and returns with error Update cannot be started. The data is damaged.(SGT0000001)

Hmm my microsd to Pro duo adapter has just arrived. Update would run now but I didnt since low on battery.

Also game doesn't crash anymore!! Seems the Pro duo stick was the issue here.


Guess there is no real good reason for mt to upgrade from 6.39 to 6.60 now is there? Any game runs with 6.39 if I believe correctly.

I got the same kind of problem before, when my 4GB MS Pro Duo suddenly corrupted (since it's a Class A product) and decided to reformat using the PSP's "Memory Stick Format" option under System Settings.

But after formatting it and put some games on it, some games (ex. DJMAX Portable 3) tend to freeze and my PSP turned off all of a sudden. I tried loading the game again, but still freeze and my PSP turned off again.

I tried reformatting my 4GB MS Pro Duo from my friend's PSP. I tried loading DJMAX Portable 3 and got surprised that it loaded just fine and even played a couple of songs.


I just bought a new 8GB MS Pro-HG Duo HX, and formatted it on my PSP. I copied all of the files from my 4GB MS Pro Duo already backed up on my PC (since my saves are all there and don't wanna end up my MS corrupted and losing all of it again), and copied some games. I tried playing Gran Turismo and it works just fine, but when I tried playing DJMAX Portable 3, "the freeze and PSP suddenly turn off" problem happened again. I suspected that my PSP, although it formats my MS Pro Duo just fine, is the culprit. Or maybe the CFW is the main culprit.

Anyway, since my friend who got a PSP that has a working MS formatting isn't around, I can't play some games on my 8GB MS Pro-HG Duo HX. SO I need to find an alternative: formatting it on my PC. So I formatted it using a cheap card reader, copied all PSP files and loaded DJMAX Portable 3. The freeze seemed to be gone, and the game successfully loaded and got past the intro movie. I even played some songs, and it still works just fine. Problem solved!!

So I suggest that:
1) format your MS Pro Duo or Pro-HG Duo HX on your PC using a cheap card reader (or use an original MS Pro Duo USB adapter which sold separately or bundled with a MS Pro Duo, just to be safe & sure)
2) use these settings when you format your MS Pro Duo:

File system: FAT32 (formatting it using NTFS will render your MS Pro Duo useless on PSP)
Allocation size unit: 32 kilobytes (I tried formatting my 8GB MS Pro-HG Duo HX using "default allocation size" which is 4,096 bytes, it works fine but the games seems to load slower and sometimes lagged on some games)


I hope this will help solve your problem, guys.


EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm using a 6.20 Pro VHS CFW on my PSP-2001 unit.

EDIT #2: Just got the dreaded "freeze then PSP suddenly turn off" crash problem after playing Gran Turismo and decided to play DJMAX Portable 3 for a bit.

After a few attempts on reformatting yet the problem still remains, I went on removing the save files. It worked and runs fine again. Then I put the game saves back, and it worked without any problems.

I suggest that you back up all of your save files/folders from your MS Pro Duo temporarily on your PC, run the game that crashed to see if it runs fine. If it is, then put back those save files/folder you backed up on your PC to your MS Pro Duo.
