Will Facebook Go Down for This?

Facebook has managed to screw up big time (not like it's anything new). Recently there have been reports that private messages sent between people were showing up on their timelines (originally only messages from 2007 - 2009). As it progressed the reports have gotten out of control and have been showing up everywhere. Messages from every year have been showing up on the timelines. It originally wasn't in North America, but again as things got out of hand, the reports are coming from all over. Despite all these reports, Facebook continues to deny these claims.

apparently it was proved that the author of the original report (a french newspaper) was mistaken.
this is just some old messages who were posted on walls BEFORE the private messenging system was implemented on Facebook.
those old ass messages are showing up all of a sudden because of changes that Facebook made on the timeline.

the whole french press reacted to the original article, the french government reacted as well, all of this without any proof or anything, and now everyone is looking like idiots.

That was one speculation. Although it could be all rumours, I have many, many friends who are noticing messages that they sent to people being on their timeline. Very sensitive messages at that. I can't say anythign for myself as I didn't notice any on my timeline, but it seems like kind of a stretch for so many people to be noticing this.

I think mine had messages showing, hard to tell. Can't remember if it's wall post discussions or PM's. Eh, either way, it's all garbage anyways.

Yeah just checked, some of it were PM's. about 95% sure it was. Still hard to tell because it doesn't show all the messages, but some people I never wrote on their walls and only PM'd and it showed up on my wall.

Contrary to popular belief, Facebook are actually pretty tight on account security. Those 'messages' were just old wall posts that people have seen resurface due to Timeline being implemented.
Isn't it amazing how much people change in 3 years? What was once socially acceptable to put on your wall is now 'highly private.'
EDIT: Well I just went and checked and apparently I was rather wrong. About 40-odd PMs came up in my feed for 2010. Weird.

Facebook's fucken mostly garbage anyway. It helps to make people feel "proud" about their boring lives. I mostly post pics for family and that's about it myself,but when I see my sisters posts about grocery shopping and cleaning the house I think to myself damn bitch get a life.

The only reason I have it is so I can talk to people that I can't see in person. And I deleted everybody else. Then today I got bitched at by some girl who said that I was pissed at her for some stupid reason and shit, and I just told her off and said "listen bitch, if I was pissed at you, I wouldn't be talking to you right now. I'd be talking to your boyfriend (who is also my best friend for 10+ years) about how much of a bitch you are, but im not."

I told her, Facebook does not, and should not whether some one is friends or not. It's sad that everybody thinks like that these days. I mean, you can meet someone in a store or something while shopping, and they'll just go to facebook, and suddenly they add you. It's fucking weird. Nobody likes that in person if someone just randomly always talks to them, but through facebook it's okay?

A 'lot of people are noticing' this because they're being told to go back years on their timeline and they're seeing wall-2-wall posts that used to be the most common way of chatting to people and thinking they look like what would normally be sent as a private message today.

As for Facebook being shit, Facebook doesn't create any content, that content comes from the people you have as friends. If Facebook is shit, boring and unfunny, your friends are shit, boring and unfunny.

No facebook is shit, boring and unfunny because nothing actually happens apart from people telling you new useless things that has happened in their life like "today I ate a banana and it was awesome". Social media is just there for people to try and get some attention and if those sites were a tenth as interesting as GBATemp or dA then it would actually be worth something to be on it.

You do relieze i;m not even on facebook and neither are my friends but I met people who are on it and they're shit, boring and unfunny and the only reason they are on facebook is because they somehow don't have enough attention in real life. The best I have apart from GBATemp is a MonsterGirl Unlimited account but I never posted anything.

I know where Peps is coming from. Earlier this year I used to have around over 100 or so contacts on there and I found it a shit experience because you get dragged down with the horrible shit that has been said like "my kid just farted, ho ho ho" or "damn its thursday". After bringing the count down to 20 or so people I bother speaking with/care enough about and have found mysef having a much better time with the service

I'll never understand this Facebook hatred for the life of me. It's a great IM client that pretty much everyone uses, it's great for organising events rather than calling/texting several upon several people, and it's great for sharing excellent content. It's a method of communicating to multiple of people at the same time. Honestly just seems like people are hating on Facebook because it's gotten so big.

By that logic, me, someone who hates facebook must also hate GBATemp, deviantART and any other forum I am on simply because it has more than 1 person on it.

I agree with the above. If you have boring or drama-loving friends on facebook, your feed will obviously be full of boring and drama-loving posts because your feed is what your friends decide to show. This is one of the reasons I rarely check facebook, I don't like much of the crap on there but I don't want to defriend people because, other than online media and drama, they're nice to talk to and I don't want to offend them.

I agree with the above. I found in comparison GBATemp is more fun and honestly a much better place to be than facebook with all the reports and stuff about getting bullied on facebook and so forth, the only problem I see is facebook and not forums like GBATemp.

Yes, that's precisely the point I'm making. Hating user generated content on Facebook is the same as hating GBATemp because it's all user generated content.

Just control the content you want to see, which you can easily do on Facebook. It's not uncommon to accept a friend and then hide all of their posts from your news feed.
