Atsushi Inaba of Platinum games (Madworld, Infinite Space, Bayonetta and Vanquish among other things) said he is "very interested in" making games for PC and releasing them through Valve's Steam service — and funding its own projects through Kickstarter"

"Console game development budgets are really big," he said, "so we need publishing partners to create those games. I was thinking — with our own money — about creating a PC title for Steam. It would give us the possibility to become a publisher, which is very attractive to me."

"If you think about the console market in Japan, and compare it to the world, it's not that big," Inaba said. "So I view the PC as an area with huge potential. It would be great if we could do a Kickstarter and gather enough money for a game to be released on Steam."

Inaba says he recently visited Valve when he attended PAX Prime in Seattle. He says Valve talked about its future goals, where the company was headed, and "things that we can't really talk about, unfortunately."

"We are very interested in the Nintendo 3DS as a platform," Inaba said. "I view 3DS as a proper, straightforward evolution from a platform that has had huge success. Being able to view stereoscopic 3D with the naked eye is a great innovation, but very straightforward, so I'm very interested in it."

"Currently we have a lot of titles in development, and we can't fund a 3DS game ourselves," he said. "So there's nothing in the works. But I'm very positive on it."

On a side note, why not just keep the relevant parts of the statement if everything is highlighted except like one line?

But anyway, Platinum Games on the PC is cool and all. Although I'd probably prefer playing them on a console anyway.

As for interest in the 3DS, as long as it's not Infinite Space. That game was infinitely bad.

Seeing the amount of people who have begged and hoped for the likes of Bayonetta, Vanquish and Metal Gear Rising to come to the PC, I reckon they would do well out of it.

The PC reaches many more homes than any Video Game consoles do. Poor people may not have $300 to buy a video game, but may have $1 to buy a game. This is true here where I live. If we take my family as example, from almost 50 cousins (I'm serious) that I have, only 5 or 6 has a video game, but all of them has a PC (and a cell phone, by the way).

I think the same happens in China, Africa, Latin America (regions with huge economic growth nowadays), so there is a lot of field for the game industry to explore via PC gaming.

But how many of those PCs can actually run games well?

Any PC with integrated graphics from the past two or three years can run most 'indie' games decently. I've got Intel HD3000 and stuff like Bioshock, Borderlands, and Left for Dead play at a respectable frame rate on low to medium settings for me... Stuff like Crysis though has a hard time hitting 25FPS on all low settings. So it just depends.

Platinum Games did Vanquish, right? I never got a chance to play the game - I'd love to see it on the PC.

err, or the 3DS. Though I personally think that "Wonderful 101" title would be pretty cool on the 3DS. Maybe a side game or something. Or a new IP - those are always nice.

Almost all of them. Maybe they not run games like Mass Effect 3, but people are experiencing growth now, so everything (pc in this case) is new, and obvious up to date. This is enough to run 50% or more of the steam library.

Why would they need Kickstarter to get on Steam? Isn't that what Greenlight is for? Or are there even more fees on top of the $100 to get into Greenlight?

Yes, more homes have a pc, but not everybody games on the pc. There are more console gamers than PC gamers.

I do wish you'd stop saying things like that so matter of factly, it provokes all the wrong kinds of discussion.
That and I liked the game, screw you. :(

Well I think that me posting it kinda shows it's my opinion. Like if I was two feet from you and said this in real life you'd know it's not a fact, just an opinion.

And I couldn't stand the game. It sets a record for being the only game which I HAD to mute because the audio was actually painful. I also found the combat dreadfully boring. Plus Platinum is known for high-paced adrenaline-rushing action games, it's kinda odd for them to get in bed with slow RPGs.

Do you think the only thing you need to pay to develop a game is steam's greenlight fee? What about pay your programmers, your office and the bills?

There are more console gamers than PC gamers.
Do you have any official statistics to back up that claim?

Well Assassin's Creed has about a 51% install base on the 360, about a 40% install base on the PS3 and about a 9% install base on the PC.
Guild posted a thread where it said that Borderlands 2 only has about a 7% install base on the PC.
Mass Effect is another one where the install base is a lot smaller on the PC, being at about 12%

Those are the ones that come off the top of my head. But the only games that really do better on the PC, is.. well.. Valve games.

For some reason I read the first post as Platinum Games wanting to take games they already developed for consoles and port them to PC.

Keep in mind we don't get digital/steam sales figures.
If anything, I'm surprised there are that many people who buy physical PC copies.

The game had a lot of strategy, it takes a while for people to actually get into the game, I loved the way how you could get ships, improve them, gather new crew mates and all that... It was one of my favourite games in the DS, if they do release games on the 3DS, I actually hope they release some sort of sequel, or maybe a prequel, that'd be interesting. One thing that I didn't like was the ending and some unanswered questions. x.x

And yeah, PC games would be a pretty good entry for them, kickstarter can actually help groups like them making new games, which I hope are interesting. =3

And on the other hand Minecraft sold 6 million copies on the PC and 3 million on all other platforms combined. Skyrim sold 10 million physical copies on all three platforms combined, and an additional 5 million digital copies on Steam, meaning the PC has at the very least 33%, but probably a lot more. Sales of individual titles don't say much about actual users, even more so since Steam doesn't generally release their sales numbers, meaning that a huge number of PC sales goes unaccounted for in sales charts. We could take a stab at estimating the userbases (Steam has over 50 million active users, so the number of actual gamers is higher), there are 63 million PS3s out there, and 67 million Xbox 360s), but there's no way to determine the overlap.
