Hacking Which console should I buy to avoid the nintendo update fiasco?

I have a 3DSXL and I'm not rebooting it till SCDStwo updates, but I'm thinking of having a my 3dsXL be only for 3ds games and have another one for just using the flashcard. Which one is the least hassle? Is it the dslite? Is there an xl version of the ds without a firmware that can block flashcarts?

One other question, when the firmware gets updated by the supercard team, is all I have to do is just drag and drop the stuff to the proper portion of the sd card?

DSi XL. It's not going to be updated ever again. Kept mine for this very reason (and its the Mario 25th aniversery one).

I say buy a DS Lite. There is no chance of it updating, so there is no worry of it blocking your flashcards.

If your 3DS isn't updated, then no you don't need a DS Lite.

The DS/Lite will never update... but there is no XL version of them.

You could just use a DSi/3DS (they have XL versions) and then never put them online.

I updated using this tutorial and it was completely painless!

The only issue I had was that I wasn't sure whether to overwrite the files or not. For the record, you do overwrite.

You could go buy another 3DS and not update it, EVER, that way your flashcart will always work.

This was my solution to this too. Partly because of the frequent "updates" on the 3DS, partly because DS games just look fantastic on a DSi XL (and so-so on 3DS), and lastly because for $129.99, it was just a hell of a deal.

You forgot extras through slot-2 and that you can put it into your pocket (you can't do that with a dsi xl)

Well, GBA functionality kinda covers that. But yea I suppose you're right

Totally get a DS Lite. I love my DS lite, It's probably the system I've played the most. Screen looks great, system feels right in the hands, GBA functionality! What more could you want?

Yes, it is and it's a really nice feature!

Although it's best to update the firmware using the normal method, THEN update the 3DS, you'll usually only have to wait about a day or less anyway.
