Hi,

I'm new here and I wan't to know if you can suggest similar games to Hotel Dusk, well, aside from the Layton Series and the Pheonix Wright Series. I've been searching throughout Google, but I had a hard time looking for one that really resembles the game and its mechanics.

theres the sequel Last Window. Trace Memory and Again are recomended because they are made by Cing too. Only other one that sticks out as obvious to me is 999

Well there is Jake Hunter and Touch Detective but those games might not be to your liking. A lot of the other similar games are just ports from the PC and are usually well always a downgrade.

Oh, how I miss Cing. Hotel Dusk was definately one of my favorite DS games, and thanks to one of the members here I was able to import Last Window. Trace Memory/Another Code (depending on region) is decent, but just keep in mind it came out before Hotel Dusk, and seems to be targeted for a younger audience. I actually enjoyed the Wii sequel moreso than the DS version. I'd avoid Again, it was not a good game.

Although not the same feel, I would put the following games in a similar ballpark:
Lux-Pain
Time Hollow
999

Someone already mentioned Layton and the Ace Attorney series, so I won't go there, but I have noticed most of my friends if you enjoy one of these games you seem to enjoy the whole lot.

If you are comfortable with homebrew, VNDS has quite a few translated visual novels that are a bit further out of the range of what you are asking.

Sure I'm fine with homebrew, I'm not sure I'll get it to play with my 3ds though I'm using the r4i RTS cart. I guess I'll research on that. :) I really wish they'ed produce another game like this it was one of the games that really brought out the fun in DS back in the day.

I enjoyed Touch Detective but the story is a bit too simple for me. Nonetheless its a detective game of some sort so I played :P

I don't know why, but I find Lux-Pain absolutely horrid. I like the premise - the idea the story is based upon is intriguing and the overall presentation looks nice... but... the gameplay... I really tried hard to give this game a chance, I "started playing it" three times already and I just... can't. Maybe it's because the game has a hard time explaining itself, maybe it's the pseudo-exploration, maybe it's the cryptic goal of the game, but whenever I reach the school in-game and find the first few WORM's, I just shut off.

I can recommend Time Hollow - the game was amazing. Same goes to Trace Memory/Another Code (however that's a slightly different type of game), Last Window and Again. 999 is pretty amazing, but it's more of a visual novel. Touch Detective games are a "different kind of mystery", but they're quite entertaining as well. Ghost Trick mixes the point-and-click adventure style with a healthy dose of a puzzle, if that's your kind of thing - I found it very enjoyable. There's also a port of the ever-amazing Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars, however you're better off playing it on a bigger screen to fully enjoy it. That said, it is an option. Last but not least, there's the under-appreciated Metropolis Crimes which I cannot recommend strongly enough - I don't know why this game didn't go huge.

Games from the "mystery" genre are actually quite numerous on the DS, it's just that it's hard to find really, really good ones among them. It's mostly shovelware of the likes of the CSI games. There's also Crime Scene - it's considered shovelware, but I suppose you could squeeze a dose of fun from it if you overlook its limitations...

If you're in the mood to try "something else", I also recommend Trauma Center games - fair enough, they're not much of a detective story, but they're an interactive adventure none the less and they're worth playing.

Additionally, the DS has its own port of SCUMM VM, if you're interested in some old-school adventures.

All in all, the DS is a real gold mine as far as those games are concerned, mainly bacause of its touch screen.

I just recently discovered ghost trick through iPhone, can you believe that. I do say that it is a really good game. Someone here mentioned Homebrew stuff, I'm not too sure what titles are available :( Can you guys help me out with this one also?

As far as homebrew is concerned, I can direct you to the SCUMM VM's web page for more details.

http://scummvm.drunkencoders.com/#whichgames

Here you will find which games are compatible with the SCUMM VM environment on the DS - I'm sure you'll find some classics there that you recognize and wish to play. The website also contains all the necessary information you'll need to boot those games on your system, as well as the latest version of SCUMM VM.

If you have any issues running it, there's always Homebrew Menu - it runs on all contemporary flashcarts I can think of. I don't think you'll have any issues with SCUMM though - have fun!

If you do play Lux Pain, have multiple saves or it can really screw with your life. Some people including me have hit a point where you miss one thing and you practically get stuck in the game without anything to help progress (my problem was not giving another character an item and it fucked up my game so I quit playing it since I didn't want to restart the WHOLE game again).

Sorry to dug this up, but I was about to open an similar thread.
I'm searching for Adventures / Visual Novels too - DS only, cause it's so nice and little.

Games I already played:

- Phoenix Wright series
- Hotel Dusk series
- Another Code series
- Touch Detective series
- Professor Layton series
- Time Hollow
- 999
- Ghost Trick
- Broken Sword (PC Version)

What is it with Lux-Pain and Again? Are they really that bad? What is Metropolis Crimes about and what makes it so good?
And was that "all" the DS has to offer (Not homebrew included)?

Edit: I suppose we could also take the 3DS in. I only played Virtues Last Reward, and I dont know if there is more. Only heard of Touch Detective 3.
