So the Dark Souls PC port has been on the butt end of a lot of complaints from fans. Originally the game's limited resolution was the target of much anger. However, modders cured this issue with a mod to enhance the resolution for a wider spectrum of options. The other complaint, however, was the locked 30FPS, which seemed rather ridiculous to PC owners with rigs that could pump out so much more. Well, fear no more, as much like the resolution issue, the FPS issue has been fixed by modders.

However, the mod does come at one price: it will only work in offline mode. As the game is known for its unique online player interactions, whether this trade off is worth it is up to you.

Well, hopefully this will end similar to the way it did with Resident Evil 4: the issues become so well-known that you get not only an official patch that fixes the issues, but a large modder's community to get your fix of extra content. Then again, it'd also mean no fix for a couple years.

Never understood the need for 60FPS.
Game looks just fine with the resolution fix, and runs just fun as well.

Why settle with fine when you can get better?

Why go to the effort when better looks practically identical to fine.

The only thing a person really needs is the reso fix, that's a given. Makes the game loook waaay better.

It depends on the subject. The difference between 3)FPS and 60FPS in something like an RTS where the majority of the screen can stay relatively the same from one frame to the next... that's not really noticeable. However in something like an FPS or action world game where you can do quick movements and rotations (to where the viewport can entirely change within ~15 frames or so of movement) it's much more noticeable.

Indeed. While I personally do find a few games can actually be enjoyable at sub 60fps levels (45-60~ish)any game that involves a lot of camera movement and whose gameplay moves at a slightly faster speed can be pretty darn annoying to play if you do not get a full 60 frames. That being said, supposedly if you are to believe the people using 120Hz monitors there's also a fairly big difference to be noticed between 60Hz and that.

I mean the higher resolutions.
I don't have the game so I'm not sure in this case, but generally games that lock resolutions do it because they don't actually detect and obey what the GPU presents (happens with console->PC ports most often since there's no need to read supported resolutions when you know the exact GPU model you're working with), they keep an internal list of resolutions, the mod probably expands on that list by adding new entries and then modding the renderer to recognize them.

Ah, I thought they just allowed the resolutions to go higher than what's in the game.

So how is this done? Do the graphics not look worse?
The 30FPS limit was artificial, they changed the limit.
I mean the higher resolutions.
In short, the graphics are twice if not 5 times as good as before with the resolution fix. This is just icing on the cake, it now plays better as well. There are some comparison images in a news post by soulx from like...a month ago almost.

Are you referring to this?

Yep, that'd be the thread.

Huh, ok. I may get this game then, resolutions were holding me back.
