I ordered an item on ebay but didn't pay...
Could I cancel my transaction?

If yes,

Your best option is to contact the seller and let them know about it. Then, if they agree, they will initiate a transaction cancellation request in the resolution centre and you will get an email. Just accept that request after reading it.

Another scenario:

If you fail to do so, the seller could open an UPI (Unpaid Item) against you after 4 days. Then you have 4 days to pay for your purchase after which you will earn an unpaid item strike against your account. Too many of those and you are out. Also once you receieve more than 1 strike, you won't be able to buy from many listings as the sellers filter out potential buyers who have unpaid item strikes.

Did you put in a bid on the auction, or did you agree to a "Buy it Now" price?
If all you did was bid on the auction, then chances are high that someone else will bid higher than you and your bid won't mean anything.

It's not something a lot of people are aware of, but ebay has a clause that states if you are unable to pay the full amount on any purchase, the company forces you into indentured servitude.

Now you'll really be doing their bidding.

No, you might be able to get in touch with the seller and explain the situation,
and get him to see your side of the story.
But my point is that you are at fault, here.
And there is every possibility that you'll have to live up to the expectations you claimed that you would when you clicked the "buy it now" button, or suffer the consequences that ebay imposes on you for not living up to them.

dont you have to confirm after you press buy it now?
even then I think you have to pay upfront when doing buy it now

it really sounds like you placed a bid and got stuck with it

Once you buy a product, you have an obligation to pay for it (it's clearly mentioned at the time of purchase).

The checkout process comes later after the item has been purchased.


Here, it's a BIN listing as confirmed by the OP. I know for a fact that if the seller initiates a cancellation request, they will have to fulfill the insertion fee out of their pocket. They will only get a final value fee credit. But if they force the UPI, they will also get a free relist or in other words their insertion fee will be saved.

I clicked on resolve problem and they say I can contact the seller and if he agrees to cancel the purchase, I am free. But if he doesn't I can wait without paying and he'll make an unpaid item case and get 1 strike like vinvinmario said. And I don't have to pay. If I am wrong please correct me!

Leave what?

The seller will either reply to your question requesting payment or oblige to your cancellation request. Just be patient. You will know it soon.

He might also chose not to reply to you and open the UPI after the 4 days time-limit is over. After which you would have another 4 days to pay, if you don't pay, the seller has the right to close the case and then eBay will put a strike on your account.

If you don't plan to use the account for 12 months, it's fine. The strike's effect is not there forever, it will be gone after 12 months. Don't worry about it, but I suggest you to be careful of what you do on the internet. Financial transactions are serious business. It will lead you to trouble if you don't learn to be responsible.

Why did you click buy it now if you didn't intend to pay for the item? You have to click buy it now and then a confirm button so you must of known what you were doing.

I used amazon before so I thought after I click buy it now, they would show me the place where you pay (Paypal, Visa) so it wasn't comfirmed
