Keeping up with all the technological goodness at IFA? I certainly have and one of the most in your face things I've seen in my lifetime was announced: A Sony branded, 84-inch 4K Bravia.
This beast boasts a 3840 x 2160 LCD panel (that is four times the resolution of Full HD), has an integrated speaker, is equipped with the Bravia engine (makes images crisp) and for those who didn't know - it's 84 inches diagonal. Not impressed yet? The TV's also capable of SimulView 3D, hooked up to the Sony Entertainment Network (think Sony's Roku Box) and, if you buy one, Sony will install it for free. Generous, right?
Sony announced that the television will go on pre-order tomorrow for a whopping $25,000! We should see a retail release by the end of this year. The Television features an upscaler to display already HD content in a 4K resolution. Unfortunately 4k, while the 4K exists in cinemas, it doesn't have a consumer format which means it won't have any native content at launch.
For some more pictures of the Television, click here.
For those curious heres a video:

The picture quality will certainly be better than anything else on the market, it comes 3D-SimulView capabilites and Sony Entertainment Network Intergration (Music and Video Unlimeted), and will probably be pretty efficient to run. In all honesty I can't ever see myself having the money to buy it, but it is very impressive and is a new technology previously only used in cinemas.

Pretty soon, tv's are just going to take up the whole wall, Fahrenheit 451-style. It looks like Ray Bradbury gets a posthumous "I told you so!" on the world.

TV's are just going be the whole internal of the house. Every wall and every window.

Ever read Fahrenheit 451?
:moogle:

Damn, beaten by Gahars :P
To answer your question, no I haven't. Probably not going to, to be honest.

Sad to admit, but the joke went over my head. Can you explain?

A chicken to pay the bill, no? :P
Not a fan of bttf?

BUT that thing is just ludicrously overkill I'm quite happy to stick with my 65" that's big enough for me. Bigger than that and it starts to go out of your point of view and that's when you have to start looking back and forward not to mention sitting further and further back from the damn thing for not everyone has a fucking cinema space for a loungeroom.

Yeah, I'm a fan of Back to the Future, but it's been so long since I watched it.

Yeah, it is a big TV. I wouldn't need such a size.

Ray Bradbury WAS on to something alright. The only thing that hasn't happened is interactive "families" via TVs, such as with Montag's wife Mildred, but that's another story.

Still, 84" is, overkill perhaps?

$25k for a TV? I think I'll buy a car, finish paying off tuition, build a monsterous gaming PC, put a down payment on a house...

Oh wait, they install it for you? Then it's totally worth it.
