During Nintendo Direct, the CEO of Level-5, Akhiro Hino announced the sixth entry into the Professor Layton series. This is the last game in the second prequel trilogy.

Looking good like all Layton games. Excited for it!

The next game will star a new character named Hermes, and will have an all new cast. Layton reappears as a grizzled pianist/poker player after being framed and fired from the Gressenheller University.

I noticed a lot of people are really mad about this being the last game with Layton as main character.
Personally I don't really mind actually.
I mean come on, the guy already starred in 7 games, he can retire now.
As long as the plot is still good and the puzzles are fun I'll still play it.
I do kind of hope the next one will have someone we already know as the main character and not someone completely new.

does anyone ever recall what happened with the android/ios spin off Layton Brothers which featured his son's as the main characters? But if we was to get another trilogy for the 3DS hopefully they will use Luke as a main character after building him up over 2 trilogies
