There are supposed to be multiple power consumption modes for the WiiU GamePad adjusting the power of the antennas.

Class 1: Maximum Range - up to 100 meters (300ft)
Class 2: Medium Range - up to 50 meters (150ft)
Class 3: Minimum Range - up to 10 meters (30ft)

100 meters is pretty awesome. Looking forward to bathroom gaming!

Awesome, so is this 3 different builds that they're testing or will we be able to switch between these modes? If so I guess I'd be right in assuming the graphics and wireless functionality will be decreased in modes 1 and 2.

Also, depending where I position the WiiU (or is it Wii U, still haven't decided) in the house, 10 meters will extend to pretty much every room.

Just thought... if this thing is as popular as the Wii and every household in the country buys one won't 100m cause some serious interference?

I imagine it'll sync and therefore only operate on a certain unique frequency with said console.
Like my ps3 got a fat and thin, each on a tv each but can play both individually at the same time with no interference between the two

I think the range is a bit TOO far, as, like others have said, it may cause interference with other neighboring WiiU consoles.
But then again, they could have something similar to the Wireless connection setups. Y'know, being able to select which console to connect to.

This just in...Nintendo spent so much time designing the upad, they for got to check the system for heating issues. And now customers have to do with bad batches for two years while Nintendo fixes the problem.

I'd start shiiting cash from laughing so hard if it turns out to be true

From what I gather, there's a switch (physical or otherwise) that switches the gamepad between the different modes so that when you're next to your console, you can use the Class 3 mode and use up less battery, and when you walk away, you can switch to Class 1 or 2. I don't think this would affect the quality of your use other than how far away from the console you can be. There would be no need to.

300 feet is pretty impressive, though I'd guess an unforeseen consequence could be more lost controllers.

Now, it could be in any room (or another house, for that matter).
