On the extended trailer of New Super Mario Bros. 2, it says that the game is the successor to Super Mario Bros. 3. But duh, it's the successor to New Super Mario Bros. Wii, isn't it?

As far as I have read and heard, many of the game mechanics are similar to SMB 3 and the only major thing it inherits from NSMB is the visual style.
Have not played it myself yet, but if that's true it actually is more of a successor to SMB3 than NSMB.

But regardless of that, even if it was just someone messing up on the trailer or some sort of communication error between developers and trailer-making-people, assuming from one thing within a trailer that an entire company knows nothing about their own game is extremely exaggerated.
Also there's no point to this thread.

It's a SPIRITUAL successor to Super Mario Bros. 3.
It's an actual successor to New Super Mario Bros. DS, and the successor to New Super Mario Bros. Wii will be New Super Mario Bros. U.

I call foul. There is nothing in the game resembling smb3 beyond basic platforming. It has no map like 3, no enjoyable weekends trying to beat it with your older brother, and smb3 wasn't focussed on coins.

They have shit like Raccoon Mario, the Koopalings, and some stuff like the blocks with screws on them in some stages, oh and the overbearing use of yellow in some places.
That's...about the extent of its familiarity to SMB3 though. It's much closer to the first NSMB DS.

Well in the trailer it looks 3d and not blurred but i haven't played the actual game yet, so I hope it's just your eyes, but anyway, this topic is about wether or not NSMB 2 is a sequel to SMB 3 or not, not wether or not NSMB 2 is 3d or not.
