Tradition more than anything. The standard of beauty most nations accepted as a norm. As you probably know (since you are an intelligent person, I know that from the posts you write) beauty is not a constant and it's been tackled by many philosophers. Beauty means something else for each and every one of us and as a society, we create a mental construct of what is beautiful and what is not. Sure, some men pierce their ears, however I did not catch on that fad yet and to me the standard has not changed just yet.

Of course there's also the debate of "Beautiful vs Handsome", and I believe that men should be "Handsome" not "Beautiful", but that's of course a different discussion altogether.

I find earrings to be more of a feminine trinket, but as I said - it's a matter of personal taste.

Interesting. I myself dislike earrings(I have tried some and have been told i should keep at it..but i don't feel comfortable with a piece of metal hanging from my ear lobes) and i have found guys to look good with them, but then again, it is a matter of personal taste.
