THIS GUIDE CAN BE DANGEROUS AND BRICK YOUR CONSOLE SINCE IT HAS TO EDIT THE FLIES IN /DEV_FLASH/ PROCEED WITH CAUTION. DEV_FLASH IS A VERY IMPORTANT FOLDER AND IF IT'S DELETED IT COULD BRICK YOUR CONSOLE. YOU MUST BE ON A CFW FOR THIS TO WORK. THIS GUIDE EXPECTS YOU ALREADY HAVE MULTIMAN INSTALLED.There are some games that won't work with this method so don't expect to be able to play all your ps2 games. all the links are to ps3scenefiles.com you need to have a account to download from the site.
1. Download the latest multiMAN (this is only optional) http://www.ps3scenefiles.com/files/file/1092-multiman-ver-044601-base-cex-dex-stealth/
2. Open multiMAN and go to "settings", scroll down until you see the "Remove protection from dev_flash folder" setting and enable it. this is needed for you to access dev_flash
3. Get a backup of your dev_flash encase you do something wrong
4. Replace the files in dev_flash with the ps2 emulator files. unfortunately due to copyright reasons i cannot provide a link. but i can tell you what to look for. in Google search for "/file/bm9z9v senspace"
5. Install LV2 Patcher http://ps3scenefiles...file.php?id=310
-installation
*install the pkg from the xmb, placing the file in the route of your usb
*make a new .txt file call it patch4.txt
*save and copy/ftp to dev_hdd0/game/LV2000000/USRDIR.
*under the LV2 Patcher menu select patch4
6. Insert the ps2 original game disc
And..you should be able to play most of your ps2 games.

no. this is only for playing original games. since you haven't bought your ps3 yet, you could get a bc ps3 and buy a cobra dongle

The guide is not very good as it's targeted at users who already know how to do things "install that, do that" is not a tutorial nor a guide, it's like telling "google it and inform yourself". You don't detail how to access dev_flash, nor explain what it is, why doing it.
And accessing dev_flash is dangerous.
Accessing factory service is not for newbies either in my opinion, and it reset some settings and video mode (users could have no visual if they don't understand what they are doing). And users on 3.56+ CAN'T exit factory mode.
And the files you provide are copyrighted files, unless I'm proven otherwise. (created with PSl1ght?)

A guide without all the files and steps is not helpful and may be dangerous to users.

Edit from July 2013:
I've reopened this guide, even if lacking some steps.
Users may ask for help instead, it will show Arya511 what he missed to explain.
