Had mine for a while and I'm very impressed, however I've been told the userbase is small. As GBAtemp is a gaming community and the Xperia Play is a gaming smartphone it's only natural that a few members would own an Xperia Play :) So I was just wondering and I need the results for an assignment.
Thanks.

I've got one, the novelty of the PS feature wore off after 6 months, I use it for MAME more than anything else as I love retro gaming. Currently running CM9.0 ICS FXP131, it gives me a better battery life than stock and runs smoother and quicker. I gave CM10.0 Jellybean FXP131 a rasp yesterday but it's still in infancy and is glitchy as hell so reverted back to CM9.0

Yes.
Yes.
No.

I have an xperia play as my main phone, i'ts running the stock gingerbread and rooted using gingerbreak.

Last time I looked up using custom roms all I found were pages of issues regarding the playstation controls on custom roms, so I left it, dunno if it's still the case.

Yes and No. Depends on what flavour of ROM you use

I'm working on compiling Cm10, There is a Data fix now and it runs lovely :) I've also had a dip with my own kernel and helped to make Gin2Ics (now Gin2Jellybean)

I own one, non rooted though. Knowing my luck i'd either brick my phone, or something random would happen and my warranty would be void.

Love playing PS1/GBA games on it. Though, i dont play it much anymore thanks to the 3DS and Vita lol. Still an awesome phone though

What are the advantages of rooting anyway?

Yes, Yes, No.

In my opinion it's a toy, and its premium price didn't feel motivated when it was released, considering its somewhat weak specs. Once I found it at about half the launch price I bought it though.

I've had it half a year, and while I'm not 100% satisified with it as a phone, the gaming features makes up for that, it's really great to always have the possibility to kill off some time. I don't leave my home without my phone anyways, so it's not another thing to lug around, and I don't have to remember to bring it with me.

I don't play the native games at all, only using it for emulation. While a little bit more cpu power would be nice for GBA emulation (a few games suffer from a little bit too low framerates), older consoles are emulated more or less perfectly. I'd say it's on par with a PSP as an handheld emulation platform.

Haven't found a custom rom that seems good enough yet, so I've just rooted the phone and tweaked the stock rom a bit.

My Xperia Play died from an electrical issue involving the charger a few days ago. D: I'm going to try to get it repaired, but if unsuccessful I'll just go for a Samsung Galaxy Glide (as it seems to be the only phone on my carrier that has a slide-out keyboard).

And this was my 2nd Xperia Play... I have bad luck.

Had mine since launch here in Australia. Gotta admit i'm generally dissapointed with how this thing turned out. After over a year the promised PS suite is still in beta and by the time it releases it most likely wont even be on this phone. Some of the games that use the controls are good like minecraft and dead space, but most of them cant seem to get the right sensitivity for the touch pads. I ended up rooting mine but i left the bootloader locked; after the news that Sony aren't even releasing ice cream sandwich on this anymore I am seriously considering unlocking the bootloader and running a custom ICS rom.

Are there any around that have all the features of the phone running perfectly (wifi, gamepad, phone signals ect)?

Wish they updated it with modern hardware, unlikely though.
Since the PSVita has an optional data plan with AT&T, they might as well just release a Vita phone, in my opinion. It could be PSP-Go style, with a slideout gamepad (circlepads could replace the analogs), run on Android (or else, it's own OS), and be fully capable of playing Vita games, as well as talk and text.

Seriously, aside from the form factor and phone, the PSVita is already almost there. But then again, I doubt this would ever happen.

I'm planning to get Paranoid Android, which is built off of CM9 FXP131, and does the GamePad work? With all the buttons, and the TouchPads?

And yes, I own a Xperia Play ^_^ , unlocked BootLoader, and is rooted. I'm still deciding which ROM to stick with.

For the moment I'm using Kang Project AOKP. Bit of a girly splash screen, but I prefer it to the FXP builds. As for Paranoid, I've read that there are still some bugs from FXP126 in there. Whether or not the gamepad works I don't know. Again, I've kinda lost interest in the gaming side of the Xperia Play so never really chosen a ROM based on whether or not these work. Probably because of the amount of shit games there is for it. MAME4Droid gets the most use on my Play
