Well, I am getting *really* frustrated as I play this game because I keep losing my save file. Does this happen to anyone else?

I assumed that this game only saves after you beat a boss or "mid-boss" but I don't ever see it popping up a box that says "saving now..." or something like that. I assumed this because if I beat a level and then exit the game, it has never seemed to save. SO, I started beating levels in sets of 4 (to get to a boss) and that seemed to work. I would beat the boss, go back to the main menu, start again, and then exit.

Well yesterday I just beat the second half of World 2 and did exactly what I just said. When I opened up the game today, I am back on the "mid-boss" of World 2. This wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't take SEVERAL hours to beat 4 levels (I am trying to get 100 points on each.)

Now I don't even want to pick up the game and play those 4 levels again because I am worried about it losing the save again. I can't believe they didn't at least add a "quick save" into the GBA games. It is a serious pain to pick up a game and be forced to play it until you get to a boss. Of course you can't exit even to the home menu so it's a pretty big commitment. I haven't played too many of the other GBA titles, but I'm sure it's a problem on other titles as well.

So has anyone experienced this? Any tricks to getting the game to save? If you play this, do you just do what I do: play the game until you beat a boss? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wow, that sounds annoying. Sorry bud, I have no idea. I played through the whole game with no problems. I do remember feeling worried about my save though, because (from what I remember) it didn't notify me if it was saving or not. Hope someone can weigh in with a solution for you.

I'm not an ambassador, so I'm not familiar with this particular problem. However, I know both the SNES and GBA versions of the game auto-save whenever you beat a level (and there's no indicator that says "saving now" either, it just does it), so it shouldn't be doing this.

Weird, never happened to me. The game has always auto-saved everytime I beat a level. I usually beat 1 or two levels and stop playing, and my save is there the next time I open it. I beat the entire game without having any problem with the save,

Maybe you could try redownloading the game? I dunno.

Try deleteing it and removing all saved data for it under System settings -> Software Managment -> Nintendo 3DS and then software and remove Mario advance 4 from the list, then open up the eShop and redownload it, if this doesn't work or if you have already tried this then sorry I can't help.

You mean Mario Advance 3... Mario Advance 4 was SMB3, not Yoshi's Island.

It saves every level? Really?? Then I have a pretty big problem. I know for a fact that I beat 4 levels with 100 points on each of them and when I turned it on the next time all four were gone.

I did a quick test when I first played it by beating a level and then exiting the game and coming back, and if I remember correctly, it didn't save. So I just kind of assumed that you had to get to a boss. The other time I played this game was on Wii (with Tantric's great emulator) so I was using save states like crazy. I never had this game on SNES which I can't believe because pretty much every game in the Mario series (platformer-wise) ends up being amazing.

Well, I will take the suggestion to re-download and see if it helps. Otherwise, I have no idea what to do and I'm sure no one else does. I don't have problems with other games saving....ever.

Thanks for those of you confirming that it saves every level and that it doesn't show anything saying "saving now."

Well I haven't tested the SD card, but I will do that soon.

I just did a quick "test" by playing a single level, exiting to the main menu, copying my save to the 2nd slot, starting a new level, exiting to the home menu, and finally returning to the game. Both save files showed up and the level was still beat! So hopefully that "trick" works for awhile.

If anyone else is having the same problem, I hope that helps. I just can't believe I would play four levels and none of it saved. Crazy. This game is a real pain-in-the-ass when it comes to collecting 100 points. Still, it is pretty fun. But definitely one of the harder Mario series games to fully complete. (I absolutely despise those flying Shy Guys that are holding red coins. If you lose one, you have to kill yourself and start again. I could have done without that part.)

Oh yeah, I hate those red-coin Shy Guys. -_- But Yoshi's Island is definitely my favorite side-scrolling Mario game (if you count it as a Mario game), as well as one of my favorite platformers of all time.
