Hardware I want a new graphics card, asking for help

Hi everyone. I want to buy a new graphics card to be able to play most games on high or better settings on my 1080p monitor. I currently have an AMD Radeon HD 6450 which came with the computer. I don't have a huge budget, so something cheap would be best. I'm not very knowledgeable in this area, so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Well tell us your computer specs (power supply).

The GeForce GTX 560 is good since you want to run games on high at 1080p. Costs about $174.

the most powerful card that have the same power requirement than the 6450 is the 7750, going lower than that won't grant you a perceptible upgrade.
( well, the 6670 should also be good and much cheaper, but if your pc has a psu that is already near it's limit, considering that this card can consume up to 3 times more power, it's really hard to recommend blindly)

I'm not exactly sure what the PSU is currently...though I'm fairly certain I'll need to get a new one if I'm going to buy a new graphics card.

Edit: this feels like SUCH a nooby question, but is there a way to check the specs easily?

Budget is $200 for the card, and I don't know what PSU's go for, but cheapest option would be best.

Aha, I know what a PSU is and does. I meant I don't know the average price for one. I guess I wasn't really clear on that.

if your current config is able to support the hd7750 and you plan to use 200$ for the whole upgrade, then once the psu bought you'll have enough money to get a 7770 which is just slightly faster and that won't be a great return for your money.

but if you want to spend 200$ alone on a gpu, then go for a 6870 or a gtx 560.

I've had a better experience NVidia cards, as they perform better for less $$$ (I've had the 6450 for $59, and it sucks compared to the $50 GT 430). Also, I reccommend you get a MODULAR 600 Watt+ PSU, because it will help with cable management and expandability in the future.

It varies per price point, but as a rule of thumb... AMD gets higher framerates but nVidia has more stable drivers. Performance depends more on how the program is coded than how powerful the GPU actually is.

Personally I have a GTX 560 Ti.

That is a very good card, i have the 560Ti and it runs Crysis 2 in Ultra.

that's a gtx 560 SE

the SE edition is a watered down gtx 560

Honestly, if I were you I'd keep saving up to about $270~ and get a 7850

Though if you don't want to save up that much, a 560 would be perfect for you and like soulx said, you can pretty much run all your games on high at 1080p
