As the co-manager of Nintendo's internal development teams and one of the most senior executives at the company, the legendary designer surely has a bit more influence than just about anyone else in the world. When I recently chatted with Miyamoto, I asked him what he would want to see on Wii U.

With the caveat that he's not necessarily talking about games in active development, and that the process of evaluating which characters and games are appropriate for a system or mechanic is always ongoing, Miyamoto indicated two franchises have his attention. The first? Metroid.

"With Metroid it's very easy to imagine some interesting implementation for Wii U," Miyamoto mentioned. "I think that having another screen with the gyro built in really gives you a lot of interesting opportunities for development, and we can bring a lot of our games to life in a completely unique way with that."

"I feel like the possibilities of the GamePad for Metroid could be really fantastic," Miyamoto told me at a different point in our conversation. "There's certainly a lot that you could do there for that game."

Yet the one that Miyamoto really wants to see? The Nintendo executive didn't give any details, but noted that "personally" the franchise he wants most on Wii U is Star Fox. Here's hoping one day Miyamoto's wish - alongside millions of Nintendo fans - is realized on the HD system.

Metroid needs something to recover it after other m. So hopefully when and if something gets made it isn't a struggle between 4 separate companies that ends in something like other m.

As for him mentioning star fox would that count as the star fox united thing getting kicked to the curb?

Metroid: Other M. Director's Cut.

You know that might actually work. Tons of stuff was cut from the original after all since a dual layer wasn't big enough, it is the reason why the gravity suit was just a purple hue around samus.

Well, the main issue that fans have with the game are the retarded mechanics (autorization/concentration) and the characterization of samus. Given how Sakamoto is probably responsible for the most part of those facts, the joke was that a director's cut would be even worse :D (but let's not dive into another other m discussion, there has been enough of them on the internet)

We really need a proper console Starfox. The past two games for the handhelds weren't good enough for me.

Not to mention the last starfox game was just a port of the 64 game :/ We need a game like starfox assault. And for metroid, we just need a new storyline. Prime pretty much gave us our whole background of phaazon, metroid/metroid 2/ and super metroid cleared out the mother brain and metroid origin/extinction, and fusion cleared up the x parasite story. So now we need a new original idea for the series, perhaps a new threat? I think all our backstory info is cleared up...

star fox would be amazing for wii u if the controller was the cockpit of the arwing and the tv screen was a 3rd person view

I think i'm the only person to ever enjoy Other M.

I don't see how Metroid above ANYTHING else could benefit from the tablet controller. I could see it making gun-type switching like in Metroid Prime. I wouldn't mind that since it wouldn't be ruined by horrid motion controls. But in that instance, a Zelda game using it for inventory management would be better...but neither of those things are particularily innovative.

EDIT: I think the new Smash Bros could benefit greatly though, like having stages have TV AND controller sections. That'd be pretty interesting.

It's about time (Metroid is most likely the FPS being talked about here).

Not that I particularly care about either Metroid or star fox...but those are games that could actually BENEFIT from the power of the wiiU (face it: Mario U and nintendoland aren't gonna drop jawbones graphical wise).
