Nintendo has confirmed that New Super Mario Bros. 2 will get some paid DLC.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will launch opposite Nintendo 3DS LL and 5 Minute Oni Training on July 28. But that's not today's big story about the game.
During today's Nintendo Direct broadcast, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata revealed that the game will have post download release content. Nintendo will offer additional stages for the game's Coin Rush mode as premium content.
The paid content will be produced by the development staff after work on the main game is done, said Iwata. Pricing details will be shared later.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be priced ¥4,800 and, as previously detailed, will be offered both at retail and as a direct download.
Nintendo also opened an official site for the game today with lots of little gameplay videos.

They are just going against everything they said they would never do...

the Wii-U will also have paid DLC they said...when did they say they would NEVER do DLC?
It was kind of tricky, the way someone said it.

He said he believes a game should be sold as a complete product, when asked about DLC.

That's why Reggie stressed at the direct that the game is already "complete" and extra levels will be available.

No, it's still DLC and people are getting left out after they already bought the game.

Your Complete" product is a "product" that you will have to pay more money for.

This is DLC done right.

And Mario is a series that's well suited to DLC. I'll probably purchase a couple levels.

how ironic for a "money grubbing" game

http://www.tgdaily.c...ds-is-different

Not Sure if this is actually legitimate, but here is Reggie's stance on DLC in 2011.

:In an interview with AOL, Fils-Aime said Nintendo is "unwilling to sell a piece of a game upfront and ... force a consumer to buy more later. That's what [the developers] don't want to do, and I completely agree. I think the consumer wants to get, for their money, a complete experience, and then we have opportunities to provide more on top of that."

We've all been there. We have all no doubt seen a piece of DLC - a power-up, a new level, a gameplay mode - that really should have just been included in the game to begin with but that we now have to pay $2 - $10 for.

if it is true, he is one backstabbing son of a bitch

The game is a complete 100% product when sold. No half a game sold to you by DLC. The extra levels aren't even created yet, for those of who want extra content can do so by paying.

As much as I'd like to believe this, I just can't. Anybody, any company can claim this, and just be flat out lying about it to please customers. IIRC, Mass Effect 2/3 (?) pulled something similar where they told everyone that a specific DLC pack was being developed after the game shipped, but people went in and found files mirrored in the DLC inside the main, shipped game.

The industry is fucked. Seriously, don't take what any of these companies say at face value.

This is DLC done right.

Generally I consider "DLC done right" as DLC that's not even thought of until the game is completed. This just feels like a tease. "Well, we'll develop this eventually, but we want to meet our release date first so you'll just pay extra for it".

Or free DLC. That's also really good.

Fire Emblem 3DS will have paid DLC as well,

and that game is being released in 2013. So they are definitely working on the DLC probably right now as we speak.

the difference between other companies that release DLC and Namco/ Bandai, and Crapcom...is that they release the DLC shit, the same day the game is released, and have no class, or give a damn about what you say.

other companies, Such as Nintendo, will probably work on the DLC as well right now ( I dont fucking believe him) and will release it later to avoid slander from the fanbase.

when it all comes down to it. Money is Money. and Companies will say anything to get you to believe they are loyal to their customers.

That's right, MAKE NINTENDO PAY for thinking into the future.

I'd make some comment about Nintendo stepping up into "modern gaming", but...I just can't without laughing my ass off.
Well, if they make actually interesting and cheap DLC like the Fire Emblem one I wouldn't mind (I mean, you get a new character, it's story quest and some new maps as well I believe), personally I never had a problem with DLC, since most of the DLC for RPG's are sometimes interesting.

No you don't get it. You'll get THE COMPLETE PRODUCT AND EVERY LEVELS IN THE GAME.
The DLC is for adding more stages for the Coin rush mode. It's an option.
It's to expand the product to expand it's life.

I'll never understand the knee-jerk reaction DLC gets in any discussion. It can be misused, of course, but so can anything; it can just as easily be implemented well.

@RedColoredStars, I did read the last sentence in your post by the way. Maybe try changing the privacy settings in your browser to standard if that works.

Thing is , the videos work fine in the Edge Dev and Canary builds. But whatever the fix they made was, has never been pushed to Beta or Stable builds. Its been that way for as far back as I tested. Which was Edge 84. They are on 125 now.

@RedColoredStars, Yeah, and I was in quite a mood at that time. I would consider choosing Firefox or Opera instead, been using Firefox for over 7 years now than Chrome.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Tried contacting Nintendo to see if they can reach out to MS about it. But Nintendo said the videos are working fine. Without enough people saying no, they don't work fine, it will never get fixed.

I have Firefox and used it for many years. But Edge runs noticible faster on my pc at both opening and loading pages.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
I don't think Nintendo will know anything about troubleshooting Edge. They mostly do technical support regarding their console family.

Right. But they could create a ticket that gets forwarded to the proper team. I think Nintendo would care that their videos aren't working on a major browser
