I was just watching The Muppets, and it got to the part where Gonzo gives Kermit and the group 30 seconds to explain themselves. When that happened, I actually kept track of the time to see whether they abided by that. Unfortunately, they didn't and ended sooner than the proposed 30 seconds.

Has anyone else done this, to test if a show/movie actually kept track when they specify it? Also, how many shows that designate time in this manner actually stay on track?

My next movie to check this is Back to the Future when Doc Brown tests the Delorean for the 1 minute time difference.

Not really a movie, but Dragon Ball Z. There`s a time which is supposedly 5 minutes, and it lasts like, 10 episodes. Fans of Dragon Ball Z will know what I`m talking about, I just don`t wanna post spoilers. I`ll put it in tags.

When Goku and Frieza are fighting, and Frieza says Namek has 5 minutes before it blows up.

In Twelve Angry Men, this exact sort of thing happens. They time one of the jurors walking around (as he's demonstrating that a witness wouldn't have been fast enough to witness the crime); the actual time passed is shorter than the time the characters give.

I don't know why I held on to that after all these years, but there you go.

Yeah that was more of the North American thing about it. And I thought about that stuff too, and while I was high, I thought outside the box and sort of thought of an explanation: The characters when they talk about shit and think to themselves or all the fighting, they're actually moving faster than what we're seeing and hearing, but we're hearing and seeing it from their perspective, so everything sounds fine. Fuck that was so hard to type out.

I actually really like that theory. It's pretty interesting.

Another theory I read online somewhere, is a little silly, but also interesting. It says that "the enemy" may have a separate sense of time, because they're from a completely different part of the galaxy. A little weird, but whatever, I thought I'd share it.

The series 24 is supposed to happen in real time, with each hour-long episode taking place over the course of one hour in the show. Though when you watch it on Netflix or Blu-Ray (without the commercials), each show is only 43 minutes long.

Each season has 24 episodes, so one entire season represents one day's worth of events. It took me a while for that to really sink in when I was watching it, and when I realized it I thought "damn, some of these characters in the show are having a really bad day!"

Every time they do that in a movie, I've actually wondered that.

I never actually timed it, but always try to estimate it in my head. I would think most of the time the time is actually off.

I love it in comics when the hero is shown saying or thinking
"I've got mere seconds to diffuse that bomb!"
It should have blown up while you were saying that you moron

Welcome to Dragon Ball Z, where everything is made up and the plot points don't matter.

Each "day" in 24 is certainly a very event filled day. Rather unrealistic to suggest that all that stuff could happen in one day. But still, great show.

Especially in the first season, it seems like it's spanned out across multiple days because of how crazy the events are. Great show though...I just started Season 4, and I've enjoyed the past 3 seasons as well. :D

I know, right? That's why it took a while for it to register in my little brain that "it's all happening in real-time" :P
