I have been using CFG for quite some time, and I saw in the last update that they added support for installing GC games, but on the SD card.

This got me thinking (I've been absent for a while), are there any news for support coming for isntalling and running GC games from USB, whether the installation happens from a PC or from a Wii?

DIOS MIOS and Devolution are still being worked on as we speak.

DML ( Dios mios lite ) can be used in the meantime to load GC games from sd card.

edit: corrections.

What i'm wondering is why is it so hard to make the transition from sd card to wii hdd?
Let me explain:
If we can load games from sd card, the loader engine is ready. It takes from argument a specific file (a gamecube iso), from the sd card reader.
So what may be hard is load from hdd the right iso.

But here is my point.
First backups of wii could be loaded from discs, then from sd, then hdd
But, why is it so hard to do a copy & paste of the method previously used?

Thanks a lot for someone who could give me a clear & constructive answer. This is just a simple curiosity

I suppose DML come out sooner because its quite more simple for Wii to read through it. Or because Wii was already more prepared to support this, since Nint officialy support SD Card as a memory device for some things.

From what I understand...

In GC mode all non-GC hardware is shut off. So if you tried loading a game from USB, the Wii would switch into GC mode and shut off the USB ports and then be unable to play it. This isn't an issue in Wii mode because the USB ports stay on so the Wii can use them.

From what I understand there is no such thing as "GC mode" for a Wii... but rather the Wii references USB/Wifi/SD by memory addresses and that when playing a GC game, it uses the same memory addresses for GC playback. I think I remember a diagram of the Wii's structure when someone was explaining why SD could work, and it basically amounted to that SD was at the edge of the addresses so it was easy to "shift" things around to allow access to SD... though I could be completely wrong, and I would love someone that knows for certain to explain it.
