I read the USB compatible devices list and found my HDD on it. Therefore I thought I'm going softmod my WII and use this.
Unfortunately I havent had much luck using it.

I hope someone in here will see my cry for help and come to my aid. :D

My HDD is a WD MyBook Essential Edition. It is on the compatibility list as mentioned. The only difference is that on the list is says WD5000C032 and mine says WD5000C032-002. Is this a different (newer) version that doesn't work?

In the description it says "Worked with USB Loader only after creating partitions. Works with Gamma R7 and USBLoader GX 600". I dont understand what this means.

I'm using USBLoaderGX 3.0 but in the description as you can see it says USBLoader GX 600. What is that?

I hope someone can help me.

"Works with Gamma R7 and USBLoader GX 600" these are old revisions, if you have download usb loader gx 3.0 and download modmii and make sure you are using D2X version 8 final or 9 rev49 beta. and you should be good to go..
how are you launching usb loader gx forwarder you need the latest one from google version 5.1 , if from homebrew you don't need anything
also is your apps on your hdd or sd card, if on usb make sure your fat is set to active and primary. if on sd make sure the lock on the side of your sd card is not on ... also make sure your usb is plugged into the outer most usb port.

WOW amazingly fast response from both of you. :D :yay:

I am pretty new to all of this so I will try to answer as good as I can.

I can see that maybe I should have been a lot more descriptive about the error.

When I start USBLoaderGX from the WII start screen it loads up fine. I have also made it see my games. But when I try to start it up it just halts.
I have tried the same with a 16GB USB Stick and it works. The problem is that it can only hold so many games. I would like to put a couple more on but there is no space.

I will try to check if i'm using the right version of USBLoaderGX and modmii.
What is the D2X version 8 final or 9 rev49 beta?

My apps are on the HDD and it is formatted as FAT32 and is set to active and primary,

I tried the ModMII approach but it didn't help.
I can see the games. When I try to load them I see the "put on your wrist thing screen" and the controller looses connection.
I press a button on the controller and it comes alive and the wrist screen goes black and then it just stops there. I can hear the USB drive is still turning, but nothing happens on screen.
The same game works when installed to a USB stick, so it doesn't seem as if it is the game that is the problem.

Very frustrating. Is it the HDD?

I have setup a few of your types of hdd, one i had to put my apps folder on a sd card to make it work , one worked off the hdd as it was supposed too. and the third one never worked at all, never even showed my games or my apps... so if you have installed ios 249d2xv9 and 250v9 or v8 final from modmii ,, and they installed with no errors.. then i would try placing your apps folder on a sd card and try that,,

Those Western Digital drives are tricky. The name doesn't say much and indeed the -002 extension could mean it's a newer type.
Those can have a total different chipset or might even be usb 3.0 compatible.
I know usb 3.0 should be downwards compatible with usb 2.0 and even 1.1, but in my experience, they mount slower when they are used on an usb 2.0 port.
I bought some WD passports. Every time you connect them to your pc they request for the install of a driver. It has something to do with their optional password protection, but I have turned that off. At that moment, I expect an external drive to be recognised as usb mass storage device. They even say they aren't compatible with linux.
Major problem is that you can't separate the drive from the usb electronics. Most cheap enclosures use a laptop or pc harddisk and a separate sata 2 usb interface. The small WD drives have it all integrated in the drive electronics. If things don't work well, it's usually an issue with the sata 2 usb which doesn't cost much to replace.

My point is, I wouldn't recommend western digital external drives for the wii. A wd laptop drive in an usb enclosure still works best for me.

Have you tried using other USB loaders?

Also have you disabled the sleep mode of your External HDD? Some WD external Harddrives goes to sleep when you use them on the Wii.

Thank you all for your replies. I appreciate it very much.

The disc is not a USB3 model. I have tried different loaders and none of them seem to work.
They all work with my 16GB USB stick. So I just have to go with that and switch the games on it regularly.
I was hopping to have all of our games on a HDD but 16 GB is not enough place.

I haven't disabled the sleepmode. I cannot do it. There is no such option for my drive.

I have also read something about to make sure you are loading the right ios, but I have no idea how to do this.

But your help has been much appreciated.

The solution must be to save up enough money to buy a new drive.

I have to of these hdd , not sure about the 002 thing though. Anyway . I reformatted my drives to wbfs , and I use wiflow for my loader. If any of the games give you a black screen change the ios . You can do that by clicking on the game , then clicking on the options button before starting it . Some of my games will only play with 249 , while others will play only with 222 , also you may need to set ios reload to block.

Have you tried this? http://gbatemp.net/t...-sleep-problem/

Yes I tried this. CrystalDiskInfo says that the disc has no value. And WDIdleDisable Tool says it cannot find any disks.

I will try this. I didn't know how to change the ios so thank a lot for this. The last part about ios reload to block I don't get. But I will try the first thing and reply if it worked.

Once again a BIG thank you for all your help everyone. I love forums.

Hallo, i'm a total noob at this. I got a wii and it seems i conected the hdd to the wrong usb port? And now it won't load at all. I tried different things but i don't really know what i'm doing here.
Could someone help me or link the right forum convo where i can find this info?

thx

edit: I fixed it and i thought, why not post it!
it appears the using ubs port 1 or 2 does make a difference :P and often HDD don't load anymore if you switch ports. What i did was reload my hdd on the WBFS manager program and retry on the wii. Before i always used udb port 2 (the most in de middle) and now it works only on port 1 :S no idea why, do you guys?
Anyways, as a noob i only want it to work and play my as* off so... there you go!
