There are three system files in the middle of my Wii Partition and they can't be defragged.

Everytime the Wii ripped game to the FAT32 partition. The wbfs game will fill into the gap between the game between system file, which divide the wbfs game file into few fragmented files. :(

So I have to defrag the files, and it takes really really re.... long time to defrag big files on a external HDD.

Is there any way solved this?

My hard drive is Western Digital Desktop Element 1TB USB 2.0 which has two partitions: FAT32 200GB for Wii, NTFS 700+GB for general file storage.

I use USB Loader GX to rip my games on a 4.3E Wii.

Thank you for any help.

Just so you know, FAT32 either goes really slow or wastes a ton of space if the partition is bigger than 32GB.

Use Configurable USB Loader (by far the best loader) to rip your game to your NTFS partition, then tell us how great and easily it worked.

The maximum wasted space would be 1 cluster per file - average half that.
Assuming that a game with covers etc. has 10 files that would amount to a whoping 160k wasted per game.
And that does not even includes that .wbfs files do not waste space since they are already are power of 2 sized.

It might help if you could give the name of those system files.

I don't know the name of the system files. O&O defrag say system file in Green Block, Auslogic Disk Defrag say "This block contains file system data."

Well, I tried Configurable USB Loader (I download from http://gbatemp.net/topic/147638-configurable-usb-loader/#4), same thing occur. BTW, there are four files can't defrag. Three "system" files and one recycle.bin (which is located at end of the partition.) NTFS also has the system files too(on my 2nd partition for general storage & on my computer HDD), I don't think change to NTFS will make any difference if both format will create system files and I can't defrag them. is there any way to defrag those kind of system files?

Thank you your helps~

It's not normat that the drive has a system area in the middle of it's data area. First thing I would try is repartitionning the drive, and formatting it again. After that, all space should be unallocated, unless you somewhere had a setting turned on that the partitions should be bootable and the system boot files should be copied. This could explain an unmovable system area on a fixed location.

I did reformatted my partition long time ago, I has the same issue as what I had now and the unmovable system was gone after the formatting. However it's happening again, and I am tired of moving wbfs games back to my computer or re-rip again. How do I check the setting of bootable drive? That might be the reason that a unmovable system file in a external HDD.

It's probably a hibernation file (hiberfil.sys) or pagefile (pagefile.sys) put there by the OS, which is nothing out of the ordinary. But really it could be any file that has the system attribute bit set for whatever reason.

Maybe you should change your pc os settings so that it also shows hidden files.
You should be able to see those files if they are really files.
Next thing to do would be changing their attributes and deleting them.

Yea, I don't think it will be some important system file, because it is only a storage partition for Wii. It's not pagefile or hibernation file, the defrag program show page and hibernation file block in purple in my system.

I untick all three hidden option: hidden file, system file and file type. :( There are an empty recycle bin and a folder call wbfs for my wii backup. All the files in wbfs folder are the backup games, nothing more.

uhh did you not copy the backups to a different hard drive while you formatted? O.o

anyways, if you have issues again, it might help to uncheck write cache on the drive properties
