A Russian company has developed software it says can disrupt and prevent people from downloading pirated content.

The tool poses as real bit torrent users but then "confuses" peer-to-peer networks, causing disconnections.

Bit torrent blog Torrent Freak reported that Pirate Pay began life as traffic management software for internet service providers.
From here they discovered it could be used to swamp peer-to-peer networks - which are used to share the files - with false information.

Personally I don't think this is going to stop anything, if its stops the public scene people will just move to the private scene, you cant stop information

Oh look, torrents.

I'm so glad I moved to usenet, lol.

Who cares, as long as it gets the job done, it doesn't matter whether you get stuff from torrents or usenet. I always use torrents. Takes 5 minutes to download episodes of everything, and roughly 15 minutes for hi-def movies (obviously depending on the seeds, but I get them when there's still thousands of seeds).

If it's a bot, it can be detected and banned. Computers are stupid, they have predictible behavioral patterns. All it takes to overcome this issue are periodical cross-checks of parts between sharing peers, this solves nothing. Moreover, a bot doesn't see the difference between legal and illegal files, it would still require human input. Because, you know, it's stupid.
