According to various sources from The Verge, Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9 is apparently coming to the Xbox 360.

According to these sources, Internet Explorer for the Xbox will be optimized for Kinect usage. This will include using gestures to browse pages as well as voice support with Bing. However, despite being Kinect optimized, it will apparently not require a Kinect to use.

This rumor, if true, would mark the first internet browser for the Xbox 360. In comparison, the Playstation 3 uses a native browser while the Wii uses a variant of the Opera web browser. The Xbox 360 would be the last of its generation to receive web browsing capabilities.

There is still no official confirmation from Microsoft, although it seems possible for the Xbox 360 to finally receive a web browser.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....

I hear Internet Explorer isn't as bad as it used to be. I mean I would never be caught using it willingly over Firefox (or Chrome if I had to) but considering its competition is the PS3 browser (which is apparently horrific) and the Wii browser (which is average but still rather lousy), if they can optimize this well, then it'll really solidify the Xbox as the ultimate multimedia console (which I would praise it for). $10 though that using it without Kinect will be shit though and I'm not gonna buy a Kinect just yet. Maybe when they're $50 and I get Fruit Ninja with it but otherwise the peripheral is shit.

But in all honesty my Xbox has replaced any need for a lot of things in my electronics set up. I don't need cable when I have Netflix, I can browse Youtube if I need to (which I'll do with my friends at parties a bit), I have On Demand for recent shows on television, all I need is an internet browser that doesn't suck ass (like I want full Flash support) and I'll be set.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I can play awesome games on it. That's pretty significant.

Okay, okay...say what you will about IE, I wouldn't have it at all on my PC if I could, BUT...currently the 360 does not have a browser. Now, why would Microsoft use a 3rd party browser when they can port their in-house browser to the 360? It only makes sense. And at this point, if it's anything better than the PS3's browser, I'll be happy.

It maybe IE (which no matter what I would never use), but maybe it's better than the awful PS3 browser.

I'm pretty sure a Palm Pilot is better than the PS3 browser from what I've heard.

And as I said, IE may be the inferior browser on the PC but it can easily be a god amongst mere mortals on a system where it's fine tuned for it. Microsoft has the golden opportunity here and I'd like to think they won't fuck it up.

Yet again that Metro Dashboard is really fucking stupid...

It may be Internet Explorer, but it beats no internet at all.

Not sure if I'll ever use this since my laptop is literally half a room away, but thanks for trying anyway, Microsoft.
