Hardware Video card comparison

So I don't know much about computer hardware. And I have a computer that had a EVGA 9800GT graphics card in it. I was able to play recent games like Arkham City and everything no problem. Not on max settings, but still good none the less. Then I bought a new card, a Zotac GeForce 450 GTS.

Can someone tell me what card is better? Here are the specs:

the 450 GTS of course . it is better than the 9800gt as it has Dx11 support. and by the specs itself xD.

You wont see a big difference, You should have saved for a better upgrade.

hmmm............. you probably won't, but in power hungry games like Battlefield 3, Crysis 2 and simialer you will see the difference. and also you cannot compare the Gts 450 to 9800gt because the GTS 450 is totally on a different level . you can really see differences in Dx11 enabled games.

9800 scores 915 in PassMark, 450 scores 1411. That's the 5th time I've linked that site in 2 days.

EDIT: Might aswell add, the 9800 was essentially a rebranded 8800, as was the 280 (all were from their "universal architecture" with minor revisions and die shrinking to better control the power and heat). The GTX 4 series was the first new design in a long time, and whilst they all ran stupidly hot, the GTX 460 (followed by the 560) became a favourite for system builders all over.

Except, I'm running a fairly older computer. It's only got 4 GB of RAM (i'm too lazy to go buy 4 more) and has a Dual Core processor at 3.0 GHz. Yeah I could have saved up more, but not only did the store not have better cards, for the amount of money I'd have to spend to get a real good computer, it'd be cheaper for me to just buy a new computer all together. I just wanted to give my computer a little bit more of a boost. Though, I still don't see a difference in video games.

"It's only got 4 GB of RAM"... I object to the word "only". 4GB is all you need. Certain apps are now hogging more memory so 6GB is the sweetspot, but you don't really need more than 4GB. I only tell people to get 8GB if they're building new computers because RAM is so cheap, but really it's not necessary. I'm not even using 3GB of my 8.

Also, 3Ghz dual core is enough to meat most game requirements, so you won't have to update for a little while.

Graphics. I've only tried Arkham City, but I raised the settings just a little, it chugged. lowered them, chugged. Lowered more, still went slow. So I just went to do default.

Tried raising them individually to see what the problem is? It can get annoying for games with tons of settings (dunno' about that game, never played it), but some video effects are way more demanding than others.

It can get even more annoying when you can't change the settings in the game, and instead have to close, boot up the system settings, change. Boot game and wait. It could literally take close to an hour to check it all, but still. I guess I gotta do something.

Yeah. You can't change the games settings in the game.

Well according to this graphics hierarchy chart you went from a tier 12 to a tier 10 card and they say not to expect much difference if it's not a minimum of 3 tiers higher. Main difference as Alaude pointed out is you now have a DX11 compliant card for games that can make use of it.
