Hi everyone, my friend's wii is bricked. It's similar to my other bricked Wii (Already Unbricked).

So this what he did why he got his Wii bricked.

I successfully softmodded his Wii using ModMii. Then, I referred him to this site so that he can be updated on what's happening to the Wii World. Then he told me that he saw an update of Priiloader (v0.8 beta) here. I told him not to install it because it was still beta but he was to stubborn to listen to me. So he downloaded it and installed it. He told me that after the 5 second screen, It showed "stack dump etc". Then he turned it off then turned it back on, then he told me that it gives no Signal and sounds. He told me that the Blue light still flashes when he turns it on. The Wii remote won't sync.

So I came to his house after the day he bricked the Wii. I brought my GC controller with me to test SaveMiiFrii. Sadly, SaveMiiFrii didn't work.

He sent it to a NAND Programmer here in the Philippines. The NAND programmer told him that he had a hard time flashing the NAND backup. He successfully reflashed it but verify failed (Don't know why). Please tell me if the NAND programmer can use my NAND backup to his Wii.

Here are the details of his Wii:

Black Wii with the GC ports
US version
BootMii as IOS
System Menu 4.3U
No access to Priiloader and BootMii. I don't know why Priiloader doesn't show up when I press the Reset button (Pressed it like for 1minute)
He has a NAND backup.
The Warranty already expired.

I was wondering if I can put my Modchip in my Wii to his Wii to unbrick the Wii. I don't know what the modchip is because It was already installed on my wii when I bought it.

PLEASE HELP MY FRIEND.

I'm willing to bet that your wii have a samsung NAND chip and the person did not remove it from the wii when he went to program it.
Your only option is to take it to someone who really knows what they are doing. There's only a few of us out there, and I don't know anyone even close to the Philippines. You'll have to ship it out of country. It'd probably be very expensive to ship it to me.

This will not help, as this is a full brick.
Betwiin is for converting nand dumps between different wii's

Reflashing is the only option, or buy a new wii.

It could help if they had the keys but no nand dump as they could create a new image to flash. However it's going to be cheaper and easier to buy a new Wii.

My advice would be to never install priiloader, any system menu hack (i.e. theme), any IOS < 200 or any channels that can't be trusted.
You can either test channels with Dolphin on a PC first to make sure they don't cause a channel brick, or just run everything from home brew channel.

Rather use ohneswanzenegger for creating a fresh nand image.

I would recommend priiloader for update/ bannerbrick protection. JUST DON"T USE UNTESTED BETA's
Still the best protection is bootmii in boot2.
Second in place in priiloader.
Best way to prevent bricks in to NOT hack your Wii. ( but that's no fun! )

You don't need update protection if you are running 4.3 already.
And you don't need bannerbrick protection if you don't install bad wads.

priiloader gives you a false sense of security while adding some additional risks.

If you know what you're doing then you can avoid the priiloader risks, but if you know what you're doing then you never need priiloader to give you protection.

priiloader is useful if you want to boot straight into a loader, but I don't see that as a useful enough option to mitigate the risk of overwriting your system menu.

priiloader isn't overwriting your system menu. It's just a program that boots right before your system menu.
So, it simply takes over the file name of your system menu to achieve this.

Saying that you don't need bannerbrick protection if you don't install bad wads
is like saying car's don't need safety belts if you don't crash with them.

bootmii @ boot2 is indeed the better protection, but knowing that doesn't help much if your wii is 2 new for it.
It's not like people are adviced to install priiloader and use that instead of bootmii @ boot2

C'mon you can't be serious.
Please read up before replying.

Priiloader can prevent accidental updates from discs and online.
If you bought any official new games you would know.
If you do'nt have a patched system menu and no priiloader, you cannot play those games from the original disc through your system menu, without updating, replacing your cIOS slots for stubs.
I know it's no problem for people that know how to re-hack their Wii but, why go through the hassle?
Priiloader can save you from any problem/ banner brick, as long as the system menu is intact.
I think it's mandatory for people that haven't got bootmii in boot2. As it's their only means of any protection available.

If you don't know how to rehack your wii then you shouldn't be doing anything that can brick it.
priiloader gives you a false sense of security.

Explain, please.

I think this thread speaks for itself. If the owner of this wii didn't have priiloader then he wouldn't have updated it and should have been scared to do anything apart from what he'd been told.

He might have just bricked it earlier, by doing something else equally stupid but either way he's got a brick & the op wouldn't have wasted time installing it in the first place.

So it's a user error IMHO.
it's a beta, TesT version.
When you test something, you have to expect bugs.

Priiloader 0.7 is stable and for the masses. SAFE. beta's are not. There's no false sense of security.
the OP updated to a beta not for testing, nor for priiloader functions. He just updated for no good reason, ignoring ALL warnings from the installer.

No false sense of security.

So it's a user error IMHO.

There are two reasons to install priiloader:

1. to skip the system menu.
2. to save yourself from bricks caused by user error.

My point is that as it fails at "2", then it's only worth installing if you want "1".

And it will enable you to play retail games without your system nagging for an update.
Also it can prevent online updates.

If you want to have a different theme or install a wad, priiloader can save you from a banner brick.
These are facts. You are speculating.

I can play that game to, you know.
My sister never had a brick, did'nt even install priiloader etc.Becuase she doe'nt own a Wii. perfect brick protection.
Why are you being ignorant to this app in general?

There is a safer way to do that, which is to update to the latest version.

Installing themes or wads shouldn't be done by anyone that doesn't know what they are doing, because of user error (which you already said priiloader doesn't prevent).

And what if Ninty suddenly brings out another update?
Priiloader will block that one, but your sysmenu 4.3 will be overwritten, together with some other stuff like the bootmii ios and homebrew channel.
Don't tell we didn't warn you.
