Hello GBAtemp,

I was wondering what it would take to get Monster Hunter 3G into the hands of fervently obsessed westerners. Capcom don't seem to want it which is good enough reason to break all the rules.

I'm guessing the following needs to be done, I was just posting this here as a question in regards to it all being possible;

- Unlock the region of the game (As opposed to buying a Japanese unit for one game)
- Hacking (Patching?) the game menus with English terms.
- Having the game play on a 3DS with local multiplayer supported.

Actual translation details are still just trickling through from people with the Japanese game. But translating doesn't seem to be a big issue. Would the hacking side of things be possible?

And does anyone know of some fan project related to Monster Hunter 3G?

Hack the 3DS first, figure out the encryption of the 3DS ROMs, and then find a way to edit them and then you can have your translation. Other than that, buy a JP 3DS and play in Japanese.

Even if there was a homebrew method; this is a whole different thing and stupid to even think about at this point. It's more involved than writing text other the top of other text.

There's no need for a fan project (if one was even possible). Monster Hunter 3G will be localized. It's been hinted at by Sven a number of times.

Ah, thanks for the replies.

Dunno about the official translation, that Sven guy hinted at MHP3rd being translated saying that 'you shouldn't be worried.'

Whatever that means.

Translating can be a huge issue. Like iNFiNiTY said, It's not just writing on top of other text. Here's a video that shows what can happen while translating a game.
Granted, this game is a GBA game, I can't help but think that you would run into the same kinds of issues. That is if fan-translation for 3DS games was possible in the first place.

I don't really see why NA wouldn't get a mh3d release
after all the we have gotten what like 75% of the 3rd iteration ports.
I'm pretty sure the only reason it is taking so long is because capcom's including a online feature for the NA release, if not they plan on making including DLC and etc.

@324atk
oh I lol'd at the difficulties vid, it must have been a hoot playing around with that (loved the crib # err and the block 0 err)
yeah translating isn't as easy as it sounds, people think you just go in and type in english and it's all good.

We didn't get Monster Hunter G on the Wii. I still think we will get MH3G, but afaik, Nintendo has only gotten one MH game in NA.

nah I was talking about the third or watnot
I'm not to familiar with the entire series but we have gotten a majority of the third game installment, no?
I know there is Tri on the wii if that is what you refer to.

*edit: besides wasn't there only one monster hunter game ever released on a Nintendo platform?
we get a good number of the games so I don't get the stress over it not coming out.
