Apple Is it possible to backup an iPhone before connecting to itunes

I formatted my PC which had itunes on it. After doing so I reinstalled itunes and deauthorized the PC it belonged to to make sure this one would be the only one that uses it. When I connected my iPhone with itunes I was hoping itunes would backup what is already on the phone but its saying it would format instead.


Anyway to backup before connecting with itunes?

Use iCloud to back it up, followed by you restoring the phone to get the iOS 5 start screen, followed by a restore from iCloud. You could then disable iCloud backup and use iTunes to get your stuff back.

1. When you rightclick on backup on your phone tab (the left) in itunes, what information is being backed up?

2. What does iCloud backup? It didnt give me a choice on specifically what to backup.

Backing up on iTunes backs up 99% of your stuff including email music contacts etc.

As for iCloud I know apps, email, docs... I don't know specifics as I didn't activate iCloud backup.

Indeed it is. I'm sorry for posting so much its just that I depend so much on this phone for work and I would be shocked to see all my contacts dissapear. So if I backup like I indicate in the picture I should be fine?

You should be perfectly fine.

Heck I'm backing up my OWN iPhone now because I'm selling it.
