Just a heads up, patching ios70 or ios80 on any non korean 4.2/4.3 system menu will give you the
Error:003
unauthorized device has been detected.
So don't do that. This would likely be done with wiimod, but there are other methods. Perhaps wiimod should remove the ability to patch the korean key into ios70 and ios80 as it will just brick a 4.2/4.3 wii.

IIRC, patching the Korean Key would be a potential solution to this issue, as would restricting installing IOS70/80 as you suggest. But AFAIK wiimod and similar tools do not patch the Korean key, they just offer the standard 4 patches (FS, NP, ES, VP). So yes, installing a patched IOS70/80 with wiimod can be dangerous for region changed wii's, but it's not because it does patch the korean key, it's because it doesn't.

Are you talking about patching the korean key in the seeprom? Cause if so no I don't mess with the seeprom but if that's what you think could fix this, I could look into that. If you mean patching the IOS, then yeah I think Wii Mod has those patches you are talking about. Wii Mod does NOT just offer the standard 4 patches, have you used it XFlak?

I am talking about patching the korean key into the system ios to enable loading korean disc from the disc channel. If the system ios70 or ios80 is patched with the korean key on system menu 4.2/4.3u/e/j you will get error 003 on a non korean wii. When you chose to patch ios with wiimod it lets you patch-
fakesing patch
nand permissions patch
es_identify patch
ticket verion check patch
setui check patch
korean key patch
set ahbprot patch

The korean key patch give error 003 on all 4.2/4.3u/e/j wiis, regardless of region changing, etc. ios70 and ios80 should never be patched with the korean key, it will always brick sm 4.2/4.3u/e/j.

d2x cIOSs have the korean key patch in them, and I thought d2x cIOSs with bases 70 or 80 would work as the system menu IOS for any system menu version. I might be mistaken about that, what do u guys think? In the end it doesn't really matter since most guides (including ModMii) recommend installing a patched IOS60 to all system menu slots.

btw, what do these patches do?
setui check patch
set ahbprot patch

It's been awhile since I played with wiimod, sorry about not realizing these patches were offered

Only the system menu gives error 003, and only sm 4.2/4.3u/e/j and only when ios70/80 is loaded by the system menu and finds the korean key. If you have doubts, it is very simple to verify.

Some guy managed to brick his brand new black cheapo wii with no gc ports doing this. I was able to brick my boot2 wii with error 003 on 4.3u, preaty simple. Wish I knew this back when I was dicking around with error003, then I would not have need to buy my korean wii.

The Korean key patch didn't exist back then.

You could have done it with darkcorp and scifii, just edit the config to use ios70 instead of ios60. Darkcorp is all korean key patched.

Yep so tested and maui's right(as if we really doubted him). As your doctor if it hurts when you do this, I recommend you don't do it. I'll add in a warning against that in the next release. Thanks for the info maui, sorry to hear about that other guys wii though, that sucks.

btw, what do these patches do?
setui[d] check patch
set ahbprot patch
setAHBPROT is the patch that allows you to keep AHBPROT when you reload IOS. When you have AHBPROT and a patchable IOS you can apply that patch at runtime. Then since you have setAHBPROT when you reload an IOS that AHBPROT flag is enabled and you have AHBPROT with the new IOS and the cycle can continue. If you apply that patch to an IOS then if you lose AHBPROT or don't have it you can reload the next IOS with AHBPROT enabled again.

setuid I don't know much about. I think it is related to the permissions used by programs like banana patcher and such that patch the system menu at runtime. Basically allows you to gain a higher access rights than just the running IOS has. But I haven't messed with that stuff too much so I more have it in as a incase it's needed.

Yeah I think the korean key patch is older than you think Joostin.
