CVG is reporting today that Capcom and Microsoft are working together to ban Xbox 360 hackers who, apparently, have gained early access to downloadable content for the new Street Fighter x Tekken fighting game.

"Yes, we're seeing news of this," said Capcom Senior Vice President Christian Svensson. "Quite ballsy for folks to be taking hacked Xbox 360s on Live where they are detectable."

Svensson went on to ask Xbox Live community members to keep an eye out and send in screenshots and/or video showing what he called "haxxors." The DLC in question is comprised of 12 new characters that will sell for 1600 Microsoft Points.

Detectable my ass LT 3.0 FTW

When you're playing with content that isn't released yet online, you can go take your LT 3.0 and throw it out the window because that's not gonna help. I have a feeling that they used a profile mod like what was done with Mass Effect 3 to unlock that extra character.

Hmm... This is very ballsy. I think its people throwing away a console's LIVE capability (they probably have a 2nd for official LIVE connection and use the other for single player hacks stuff) just to make a statement. People are in no way stupid enough to think they can get away with this. Then again the stupididty of man knows no bounds.

If the content is on the disc, it's basically just a cheat IMHO. Like a an Action Replay code, which unlocks items in RPGs which didn't make it into the final version, but are present on the cartridge.

The issue of Capcom's DLC policy aside, is this really a surprise? To anyone? I mean, it's not like there's no precedent of Microsoft banning hackers on Xbox Live.

To elaborate, you can burn a patched copy of the game that unlocks the content. No CFW can protect against banning from actual hacks/exploits.

Under law, the most they can do is ban you from the game's multiplayer.
Microsoft has no right to ban you, as you have done nothing wrong.

Under terms and conditions, you are not allowed to:
Pirate games
Modify the console itself for illegal use (Well, piracy)
Illegally obtain DLC.
Cheating or hacking in ways that "Ruin the Xbox Live Experience for other players."

Now under US laws regarding this, you payed for the disc. You are free to do whatever you want. Anything on that copy belongs to you, with further no charge.
That means, as long as you find a way to access the DLC without modifying the game's iso image itself, you have done nothing illegal. Companies can not charge you
in court for freely obtaining DLC that is already on-disc.

The only issue is, if you obtain it via profile mod, you can have your profile reset, and you get that profile banned from xbox live.
If you modify the ISO, its no longer the copy you payed for. its a different image. Now you can be charged in court for piracy.

stealth edit~ Grammar fix.
