looks as though capcom have done it again by placing dlc for Racoon City on the disc already, following them doing a similar tactic with Street Fighter Vs Tekken with the excuse it was to ensure compatibility for all users

I wouldn't be surprised if they began doing this for all their games.
all they need now is something megaman related to piss off the fans.

You know, there is a template for News.

Because canning legends 3 + universe, the horrible Iphone port of MMX, and the constant trolling surely aren't enough >_>

A bit off topic, but...
  • I guess the MML3 thing is a valid complaint but it's a spin off sequel to a series that hasn't had a game since the original Playstation. You'd be just as satisfied if it never existed.
  • I didn't think Universe was much outside of concepts and teases. It never even came to fruition.
  • If you expect any iPhone port of a game so focused on a necessity for tight controls to be good then you need to rethink iPhone games. I like iPhone games and stuff but trying to port a trick action platformer like MMX to it would never work, period. They also gave you a fantastic PSP remake so keep that in mind.
  • I was going to leave a note on "fat Megaman" but it looks like you cut that out ;)
On topic though, oh Capcom. I'm guessing (or hoping) this is there as an incentive to buy new over used, like you get some DLC code in new copies. Otherwise it's yet another shitty tactic.

Universe had builds and playable versions, do some searching on youtube, :) Both legends games were released on the PSP (The 2nd even got an update with side stories), with a USA release canceled, and they had a cell phone game.

On-topic: I've heard the DLC will be day one, anyone know if this is true?

Great another paid DLC for content already on the disc. Thanks Capcom.
Isn't he basically saying the dlc is ready on-disc, but still requires you to activate it or some sort through downloading it from PSN store like WipeOut HD or games that have trial and a full game activate that is only 1 MB big or something?

I think there is a code and you have to pay extra to unlock the stuff already on disc, man is this abusing DLC at its finest.

Is there anything that could be used for an excuse for this one? SFxT had at least some kind of an excuse (multiplayer compatibility), but it's still not that good.. Well maybe I'll but the "Gold Edition", which will undoubtably be released in a year or so :)

you know, you criticize this move (and certainly rightfully so), but I can honestly see practical uses for such a method of DLC access.

Imagine if you will that GTA 4, Ballad of Gay Tony, and The Lost and the Damned all were release on a single blu-ray for the PS3. (So this is at a time like now, when all three games exist and can be bought and downloaded seperately.

Now, imagine that you can buy this blu-ray with all 3 games instantly playable for 40 dollars. This will satisfy many many people.
But now, imagine someone who didn't go out to buy a game, but passes by this collection of games and wants to be able to play just one of the three games that night, it doesn't have to be all 3. But 40 dollars is more than he has on him anyway. Well what if they sold a version with just GTA4 activated, but the other 2 games still on disc, instantly playable if you purchase the "dlc" which simply unlocks those parts of the disc. And to buy it this way only costs 20 dollars, and each seperate dlc game can then be later activated when the buy has more money on him for 10 dollars for each other game, and as soon as he purchases it, the game is unlocked instantly, no waiting for any big files to download.

This would increase sales of that collection of games I bet (I know the collection with all three games exists, but to have the version that I imagine with the unlockable other games also available for sale, would definitely boost overall sales).

why do people keep saying DLC when it's on-disc? that's not DLC, unless Capcom's definition of DLC is Disc-Loaded Content, in which case, every part of the game is DLC.

anyways, those are just unlockables. if you have to pay to unlock stuff, that's... well, that sucks.

I seriously hope Nintendo gets DLC right. And I hope Nintendo doesn't let Capcom do scam content on games that are published for the 3DS/WiiU. In which case, I'd wonder why Sony is letting Capcom act all scamful and stuff.

What you're talking about is technically an expansion pack format, which has already been done years ago for a whole different reason: there wasn't a real possibility to download large game pack/upgrades/whatever via the internet because it was far too expensive, took too long and the capacity of the connections were lacking.

On the other matter, it depends a bit on what is considered DLC. Borderlands has 4 DLC packs. Borderlands GOTY Edition has all 4 packs on disc. Without the need for payment. The game originally retailed at 69€ (where I live), which then came down to about 19€. Now imagine that buying the basic version + downloading all the DLC. That'd be something like 59€ without possibilities of reduction related to DLC. The GOTY Edition instead costs around 30€. You can actually buy the game + DLC for about £15 which is even less than the 30€ I mentioned.

That's a lot less than what could happen in the case of RE: RC. Saying this is a good thing with just activation costs is bull. The game will never go down in price if you want to play the content on disc with this activation measure. It sure as hell won't stop piracy either if there is a unlock key present.

There is no reason to not give the DLC as a part of the if it's already there when the game releases. Kinda like the ME2 PS3 version which came with pretty much all DLC available at the release, because it would have been stupid to ask for 69€ + around 30€ for the game and DLC when it was released a year before for the 360 and PC. Additional, not yet finished content on the other hand can be released after the game has been released..

tl;dr: "DLC" on disc at launch is bull. It's just another way to make people pay more because while the game can go on sale, DLC never really does.

That's different from charging for 'lolcontentalreadyondisc' that is part of the package that you paid for at the store. It's like the Mass Effect 3 DLC, what right do they have to charge for crap you already paid for when you bought the disc. Fine don't include it in the PC disc version, but don't expect people to pay for something they bought already in the package.

Mass Effect 3 DLC was only models and some others, ie. a part of the DLC, not the whole deal. Why would it require a 600MB download for just an activation key? They did the models before hand, but the whole DLC isn't (AFAIK) included like in the case of SFxT and RE:RC. Although we don't know if the whole DLC is included in this case.. :I

Because if i dont get it wrong atleast. Its not accessible unless you download some stupid code fron the PSNstore/Market to active it, thus making the content a DLC. Surely it will be on the disc, but its not like you get any of it lol.

This is why cheats were made in the first place so you can avoid paying to access content already on the disc.

what do you mean "making the content DLC?" that's ridiculously daft. DLC is DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT. it's NOT unlockable content, despite what others what might want to call it, by the sheer virtue of it being downloadable (which means content is packaged separately) instead of being unlockable. yes, content is packaged separately, which means you download the whole thing, not just a code, or a key, or however it is unlocked. if Capcom is calling that DLC, then Capcom is lying to you, and you are swallowing it all up.

...meh, but why preach when people will still insist otherwise eh?

Pssh, everyone knows DLC just means "Disc Locked Content" ;)
