Wondering if it would be possible, when the 3DS recieves a flash card or gets hacked, that when 3D is turned off, a home brew developer could use the extra power for better performance. If so, things like nintendo 64 emulator could be possible. While it is possible with the normal specs, the game compatability would be reduced to half of the games with graphical glitches. Were looking at CPS1-3, Mame support aswell. I haven't checked the specs of those, but one can dream. Speaking of dreams, maybe dreamcast would be possible as well.

We've had countless threads on this, I think it's about time we made a "Wouldn't this be cool if..." sticky.

As for emulators, for the 1000th time we just don't know what's possible and whats not.

"untapped potential"

Game cards (if I remember right) for the 3DS don't have nearly the clock speed to handle N64. It would have to be softmodded (or hardmodded with giving users NAND permissions/installing stuff) which won't happen any time soon.

I dislike what the 3DS section became, as an overview:

I kan use teh Ds flash kart??
Ds flash kart work????
ho i update mah Ds flash kart??
wat is posibl??
i tink of great idea!!
Ds flash kart...
New small tool
Ds flash kart no ply 3Ds rom??????
Crown3DS diz real??
New small tool
wat i can do??
....

tl;dr It's either about a DS flash cart, BS, or (rarely) a reading tool. (Names were emphasised, though)

No... other than the DStwo and iSmart, flash carts run the games on the system itself. So, for example, homebrew on the iEvo on a DSi runs faster than the Acekard 2 on a DS.

I rather have CW then a flashcart I feel I should say.
CFW would be better than a flashcard but a flashcard isn't so bad.
Your right. It isn't so bad but with the technology portables are coming out with now. You can't help but feel they're a little outdated. Everything can be done on an SD card now. No need for flashcarts (Assuming you can find a way to execute homebrew/pirated games on an SD card)

Well to be fair isn't the first portable to have CFW is the PSP?

Of course I think the 3DS hacking will go the way of the PSP by having CFW installed by the SD card to the console instead of a flashcard since it uses a more FW based system than the DS and you can, look at the PSP you can boot ISOs and so forth from its memory card.

i bet that when the 3ds gets hacked thee won't be flash carts. instead there would be hack carts that plug in to the sd card slot.

Lots of stuff could be emulated but I am going to say no on DreamCast or PS2 or Gamecube... The PS3 cant even handle those and the only one that currently is emulated very well at all is the GameCube and very mixed results on PS2 on the PC. (Emulation usually starts out on PC.)

In essence you would gain some emulators over the PSP but not many more. Probably just better emulation on systems the PSP had to use frame skip to get working.

Might see some nice PS1 emulation, I think that would be nice.

All this is currently a thought exorcise though since the 3DS is locked down tight.

nice to see some non depressing people here. If you see topics like this everyday, then take a break from gbatemp. some of us like to dream about the things possible(even if theyre imposible. yes, i know its dumb). btw I heard from nintendo that the SDcard is in no way connected to the game catridge slot(I can't explain why you can save screenshots in 3D Land to the SD), so we wont be able to load back ups through SD. the reason i mentioned the untapped crap is cause before the release of the 3ds a developer tweeted or said in an interview that the 3ds would have been more powerful if they sacrifised the 3D. Sorry for not including the sauce. some of you guys who are straight up down to earth and nice, we need more people like you. other people, calm the fudge down. its just a topic, acting like common topics raped you as a child.

Unlike a lot of people, I do see potential for n64 emulation through some kind of means; especially since the PSP was able to handle it to an extent. Anything before that probably would work as well. I would definitely go crazy if all this indeed happens. Now anything like Gamecube or PS2(6th gen and onward) is obviously wishful thinking and won't happen, but I see 5th gen and backwards being possible; the question for something like that is...would they run 'well'?

Personally, I'd prefer a flashcart... I'd rather run something that I can just pull in and out, and BOOM... instant hacking/unhacking. No worries about bricking, etc :ha:
Why would you have to worry about bricking?

if you got a launch model of the console then chances are you can CFW it without bricking its the newer consoles that has that risk. Look at the PSP the only models that has a higher chance of bricking is the 3000 and the Go while the 1000 and 2000 even if bricked you can recover it.

That's exactly why a flashcart would be nice... no fear of bricking regardless of the model. and if a 3ds revision has a second analog (which I'm DESPERATELY praying for), I'll definitely be getting it...
