Hello! I've done the necessary steps to hacking my system. Fremcboot 1.8 is up and running, but all of my discs have been useless.

I have TDK DVD+R 1-16x speed 4.7 GB, and according to ImgBurn, it (the disc) only supports 4x speed and 8x speed.

I've burned (or tried to burn) Persona 4 on
  • ImgBurn: 2x speed, 4x speed, 8x speed
  • Roxio: 8x speed (this was automatic; I didn't had the option to select which speed)
  • DVD Decryptor: 4x speed
and a few from the dot hack series, and two discs of a patched KHIIFinalMix...
The discs look like this:

and my computer specs are:

Is it because I don't have enough RAM? The discs? And if so, what can I do to improve? :O I've wasted a lot of DVD+R discs and word on the internet is that DVD-R is more compatible with older ps2's... any feedback would be helpful! :D

Not wishing to be too negative here but you can get most PS2 games for aroun £1 these days. There doesn't seem to be much to gain from burning them as the media and effort isn't much cheaper than replacing the game.

Ah okay, my convictions has been reinforced.
... patching ISO's with ESR? What is this you speak of? I thought patching were simply for translations... and other miscellaneous things... :O

Patch the iso with ESR, booktype DVD+R to DVD-ROM. Use IMGBurn, DVD Decrypter is old.

Went to Gamestop yesterday mate, and the (pre-owned) Persona games are still 30-35 bucks. Even Ico - awesome underrated game that hardly anyone knwos about - is 25 bucks pre-owned.
I can get a pack of 50 discs for the price of 25 bucks, haha. I'm super cheap, man.

Really PS2 games are still worth a bit considering the PS2 was damn amazing and it's still being sold brand new by Sony today.

Just a burned 4x speed copy of Persona 4 after ESR-patched!

First attempt: There wasn't any "This is not a PS2 disc" red screen of death this time!! WHOO!! But it was spinning in endless darkness for a very long time...
Second attempt: Waited a while, about 20 seconds? Then my HD tv flickered light purple then light blue (so scary), but then I saw the familiar spinning disc at the lower-right hand corner (Persona logo) and hd;ughaeg;oiaregh IT WORKS.

I'm in the process of burning an 8x speed one (I was impatient with its endless spinning)... I wonder if this one will boot up faster. :O

THANKS YOU GUYS! This forum is awesome! :D

Oh, I see a millisecond glitch in the anime intro. Ah well. It's free, and it works.

Taiyo Yuden DVD-R is the absolute best you can get for the PS2, and they are relatively inexpensive, too. Besides burn errors (fault of your own drive), you won't have any problems reading these.

Hello. I'm totally new here, and I created this account mostly to write my problem here. This topic has already 2 years, but maybe someone will help me anyway (there is always a hope! )
So. Today I've burned Persona 4 on DVD-R Verbatim speed x4 (as I always do). But! When I wanted to play it, it was spinning endlessly with a black screen - like at the first attempt by teabox. Of course I patched the ISO file with ESRpatcher first. After that I burned another copy, this time on 2x speed. But well, not really surprised, it didn't help. I was looking all other the internet if maybe there is a trick about Persona 4 to burn it well, or maybe someone had that problem and solve it and wrote here about it. And only topic about my problem is right here, made by Mr. teabox.
So now here I am, writing to you, all kind people, asking for help.
If this matters, I'm using SwapMagic 3.8
