I love movies, specially ones that break the mold of what is show in theaters. I'm Hispanic and have always enjoyed "Western" films but I was intrigued by a trailer one day that I happened to stumble upon while I was browsing the interwebz. It's was a trailer for a movie called "Sin Nombre" (I viewed it on Netflix) this movie can be classified as Drama although it is gritty in the best possible way due to the involvement of a Latin American gang. The movie was filled with emotion and suspense. Ever since then I have been getting into Latin American movies.

I however have come upon a film that best depicts the genius of Latin American cinema (Due to the true depictions of real life). The film is called Amores Perros it comes from acclaimed director of Babel and 21 Grams and it also follows the same scheme (different stories that "crash" into one another). It was his first film and I can say it's the best because I have seen all 3 films. The films shows the social classes in Mexico and gives you an look into the lifestyles of each. The stories are emotionally gripping consisting of a lower middle class family in which the younger brother falls in love with his older brother's wife (At first she rejects him but later she realizes how much he cares for her and accepts him), there's a story of a homeless man who was once a revolutionary who failed his vision of creating a peaceful world which in turn separated him from his family and more importantly his daughter whom he loves very much, and finally of wealthy business man who leaves family for a model who he fell for but when a certain event occurs it causes tension in their relationship.

I leave you with a great video I found to give you a better representation of the film. Enjoy.

If I can't understand it, then no. I prefer movies that I can understand.

Although Hollywood can get the job done/provide something enjoyable to watch stuff from outside is where I look these days to find something. Rather shamefully though I do seem to have overlooked South American cinema (with the exception of thoroughly enjoying Dying God the other year http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1056467/ - it is a terrible film really but reminds me so much of grindhouse films I ran with it) so if you reckon it is on the up I will have a look.

Amores Perros is one of my favorite movies.

There are so many great movies out of Mexico... Y Tu Mama Tambien and Pan's Labyrinth come to mind.

Sleep Dealer and The Skin I Live In are interesting movies.

Timecrimes is a decent Spanish movie (though one major plot hole could make repeat viewings apalling should it occur to you).

If I think of more I'll post them here.

Watching a clip of two Mexicans fighting on Youtube is what I'd hardly call Le Cinema, and I'm offended that you'd want to recruit more people into watching it.

Latin AmericanCinema? Hmm, I'm not exceedingly familiar, but I've watched some stuff. First, the afformented Amorres Perros (the English title is better: Love's A Bitch), Babel, The Skin I Live In and Pan's Labrynth. Then, there's be the suprisingly good Miss Bala, the mildly average Biutiful, the brilliant Frida, the extremely vivid Cronos, the moving Silent Light, the heavily erotic Like Water for Chocolate, the obvious critical choice City of God, two films from Lucrecia Martel: The Headless Woman and La Cienaga, both of which are excellent (still need to watch Holy Girl though), the blunt Y Tu Mama Tambien, and the sharp Whisky. I'd say that out of these, Pan's Labrynth and and City of God might be my favorites.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'll stick to my old Vicente Fernández, Antonio Aguilar and Cantinflas films.
I can't seem to get into black and white films, it brings out boredom. Color=Life

Old8oy- coincidentally is my favorite movie hands down. Taboo subject brought through incredible surreal and gritty film.
