That is super-cute indeed. The cat seems to be faring well without one of his senses - brave little boy. Also, the owner had the best idea ever to buy toys with bells in them - cats have good hearing, that's all he needs to play with'em. :)

How exactly can a blind cat be brave? Its just a dumb cat. Being blind makes it no different that other cats. It just lives. Cat doesn't give an F if its blind or not. It just does stuff... This isn't some movie about a blind thing with feelings. Its not like the cat goes to bed sad every night because it can't see...

And why go through the trouble of saying the owner is smart for buying a belled cat toy? Have you ever bought cat toys? over half of them are belled or makes some sort of electronic sound effect. I bought like 4 belled toys for my cat a month ago... wheres my reward?

Anyways... video.

He's a mammal, not that different then yourself. He's brave because he carries on living like a normal cat despite his affliction, which isn't always the case. You don't know whether he's sad or not because you never asked him for an opinion. Also, you're an asshole.

Your cat enjoys them, isn't that rewarding enough?

Don't be an asshole. Why do you own a cat if you don't even seem to care about other cats? (Unless you're implying you have the most perfect cat in the whole world and no other cat matters but your precious cat). Calling something dumb because it's blind is so immature. What are you, in 3rd grade? If your mother/father were blind, would you call them dumb? Animals have just as much feelings as a human. Are you saying you can't notice when a cat is excited and happy playing with a toy or even its owner? Or when a cat is laying around, not eating, being sick? If cats didn't have feelings, they wouldn't be alive. Your post was just rude and unnecessary. You don't deserve to own a cat.

No... its not enough... because you're praising some nameless fool as "smart" when its really common sense. Its just common sense to get noise-making toys even for seeing pets...

And really... the cat isn't "brave" Its just living as a cat. Theres no inspirational story of motivation and perseverance to be had here. A kid fighting cancer, overcomming the fear of death is brave... But a cat? Who has no sense of self-worth or self-awareness? Who has no idea what being brave or emoting is...

You might as well call a helium balloon brave because it dares to fly closer to the sun.

I didn't call the cat dumb because its blind. I called the cat dumb because all cats are dumb. And no... only some animals can experience some of the feelings a human can feel on some reduced scale. "Feelings" are a brain function... some animals have it, but none of them possess the brain power to feel that is anything close to par on a human level. There may be many example of some animals showing "something" but to claim its anything close to real emotion is just ludicrous.

There was this guy who lived nearby, his dog dug up his grave and scratched at the lid of his coffin until its paws were bleeding and then died on the spot because he missed him so much. The family chose to leave the corpse there by his master and asked the grave diggers to just cover it with soil again. True story. Can't say that most humans have that kind of loyalty.

Mammals are generally very intelligent, and I agree that not all animals are equally capable of "feeling" however saying that high-tier, intelligent animals do NOT have emotions when they clearly express them in everyday life is ludicrous.

Not sure if trolling or never really pays attention to his/her cat...

You double posted BTW.

Also, why do you think cats go hide in unusual places when they feel they are close to death?

That's actually survival instinct and it works the same with humans as with cats. What's expressing emotions though is that animals appear to be in certain moods - their behaviour may greatly differ depending on various circumstances and they can indeed get very emotional sometimes. Humans are mammals like any other, the only things that allowed us to thrive are the language, brain capacity and thumbs - without those we'd be still at ape level.

There's another example like this: a dog stayed near his defunct master, licking him in hope that he would recover.
And also, that cat who stayed near another dead cat for weeks, bringing him food every day in hope that he would one day wake up and eat once again.

Don't want to take over Foxi's "spotlight", but just had to say a few things:

That nameless fool that you speak of? Rescued a living animal with a disorder which would most likely not have been adopted by someone. Let me guess how you got your cat, you went to an adoption center, picked the best looking "normal" cat, right? It's news to me that animal lovers are considered fools. Do you love your cat? Are you a fool? (Other than acting like one in this thread)

Nobody said anything about the cat having the feeling of bravery, where are you finding these statements?

Also, we as humans may NEVER know what a cat feels in terms of emotions, but shooting down the possible idea of them being able to is just as "ludicrous" as your posts. An animal can feel pain, and temperature. What makes you think they can't produce emotions? Sure, cats don't seem to cry, but crying isn't considered an emotion, being sad is. Which of, cats have the ability of.

Myeh. To be perfectly honest, I'm not all that interested in this debate anymore. I'm not one of those people who will go out of their way to convince people that the Earth is actually round when they claim otherwise, and this situation is no exception.

What's astonishing though is that humans are still so full of themselves that they dare undermine other species on the basis of... well, actually, on no basis at all. The fact that we dominated the planet is one thing, but it doesn't give us the right to say which animals "feel" and which "don't". Unless there is scientific proof that states a given creature is incapable of independent thought then the possibility for feeling emotions is out there, and that's enough for me.

Not really a strong argument considering dogs don't really have anything to stop their impulsive behavior. What sane, logical human being is so impulsive, that they would ignore all their thought and reason, and act on one singular compulsive instinct? Theres a reason why 99.999999% of the moms in the world don't go digging up their dead babies. You think a dog cares about defiling a grave? Any human that would go to the extremes to attempt digging up a corpse would be psycho-evaluated, because as it turns out, a normal human happens to have the wide range of thoughts, emotions, and brain power to prevent them from acting on one extreme impulse. A dog desecrating a master's corpse doesn't mean that its filled with an extreme emotion... it just means it lacks what is necessary to stop its impulsive behavior.

Now I'm not denying that some animals have feelings, I'm just saying they lack the variety and simultaneous feelings humans experience. I can feel angry, sad, anxious, worry, and happy all at the same time. I can feel love, and my feeling of anxiety can keep me to do stupid/insane things than just love would have me do. It could be argued that cutting off your lover's face so that you can wear it and feel apart of them is love. It just so happens that we have a whole lot of other thoughts and emotions that can keep anyone from even thinking that... My mother has a 100 pound dog that is willing to break anything or do anything just to get closer to her including actually hurting her by tripping, shoving, and jumping on her every single day. That doesn't mean the dog "loves" her more than any human could... it just means that its a dumb animal that doesn't have the brain to act controlled. Just what in the hell do you think a human is capable of if they act on only one feeling? I imagine we'd have lots of dug up corpses...

Anyways back to the start of the argument where I forget who said a blind cat is brave because its blind. No. No... Nooooo. The cat does nothing to be considered brave because the cat is just living as a cat... He doesn't have self-awareness and think "Its so hard being blind but I gotta persevere through my hardships." No... Cats don't work that. They instinctively live life as any other cat would, blindness or not. Just because that cat might have the capacity of being fond of its owner doesn't mean that its doing anything with its life to be considered brave. I guarantee you that to the cat, blindness isn't some hardship to overcome... The cat probably can't even comprehend what it means to be blind. It doesn't even know what blindness is. Its just a cat with no eyesight...

I'm a cat person, and a cat lover. But I'm objective enough to acknowledge that the cat thats resting on my lap right now of its own will, and has slept with me every single night since I picked it off the streets, is just a dumb, inferior animal, that might be able to express/feel love, but cannot even begin to actually comprehend it. How every animal acts, behaves, or feels is all determined in the brain, and not all brains are all the same. There are parts of human brain that just doesn't exist in animals, and the ones that do, are either much much smaller, or much larger than a humans. Why does a dog's or bear's sense of smell is several times more powerful than a humans? because the parts of brain that handles smell receptors is much larger in them compared to us. Anyways I'm gonna stop talking. I hate that I made the discussion about brain-talk. But hopeful I stressed the fact that blind cat is as dumb as other cats and doesn't do anything to be considered one "brave little boy." Its just a cat thats blind that doesn't know anything...
