Gamestop has launched a new branch of its "Powerup Reward System" which now allows customers to receive retro video games as rewards. These include but are not limited to games from Atari 2600, NES, SNES, Playstation, Genesis, and N64. The feature was just added recently and has an ever expanding library of games available. Some popular titles available include Street Fighter II and Super Mario World. The only issue is that the rewards seem to have very high redemption values, for example, Metroid for the NES is 39,420 whereas some of the highest rewards in their catalog do not cost anything close (you can get a new 360 controller for less points, and it costs over 10 times as much as a copy of Metroid).

Despite this it is a welcome addition to Gamestop's reward program and hopefully they will add titles and lower prices soon.

lol you could go to a pawn shop or small game shop that sells classic games and get most of the games they have listed for a few dollars. Just another way for GameStop to try to make people waste points.

agreed WAY over priced
Over priced is an understatement...1000 points for PowerUpRewards is equivalent to $50 of used purchases or $100 of new purchases. That means Street Fighter II alone would mean spending over $700 in GameStop just to be able to get that one game.

Yeah, that's why I thought it was worth mentioning they're WAY overvalued (I guess I can't say price since it's not buying them). They're most likely placeholder values for later when they're better stocked and have more variety. Hopefully they'll lower to more fair values. Seriously, a 20 dollar off an purchase coupon is values less than that 3 dollar Street Fighter II.

To make matters worse it's just Street Fighter II not even Super Street Fighter II or Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

Even if it came mint with box and manual that's multiplied a few times by what it's actually worth. And I doubt they'll send more than the beaten-up cart anyways.

its not necessarily overvalued, its simply if you spend this much, you get a prize. you can obviously obtain those titles in other places for less of a price.

what if these are new in the box then wouldn't that justify the astronomic price?
metroid sealed is going for $1000 so if they are sealed you might be getting a deal
