A story that spends 20 hours causing headaches before turning its ship around, a soundtrack with a severe identity crisis, a jumping mechanic that can’t figure out how it wants to work, monster allies, maps that are no longer shoe strings, beautiful environments with opportunities to explore, an addicting level-up and customization system, time travel, and a heavy metal red Chocobo whose theme music will ask you “Are we in Hell?” This is Final Fantasy XIII-2.

This is the first English in-depth review I've seen of the game so far. I just thought some of you might be interested.

so the battle system and the monster in party are good
but the story, the characters and the soundtrack are bad...
guess I won't buy it...

I tried the first portion of the game. (If you could call it that.) I was pretty impressed by the feel of the gameplay, but eventually quit because of the Japanese. Can't wait for it's release.

The only review I care about is Kagari's review.

Though you all shouldn't care for reviews anyway :v

Edit: oh and that review is for the Japanese game btw, there's tons of reviews for that!

The soundtrack does not suck. Maybe one of two tracks but not the whole OST. Caius's theme is amazing.
You didn't read.
They didn't say it sucks, they said it's has an identity crisis - which is rightfully true.
FFXIII is still the superior soundtrack due to this.

Examples (don't click if you don't want the soundtrack spoiled!)
Paradigm Shift - This is one of my favourites, it fits the futuristic theme FFXIII-2 has and is better than the other battle theme in FFXIII-2
Plains of Eternity - JPop.
Invisible Invaders Persona-esque/rap
Crazy Chocobo - The new Otherworld.

Now, of course game reviews aren't the be all, end all determination of a game's quality. Still, this doesn't bode well for the game.

I'm curious to see what other people think of the game once they get their hands on it.

Official Playstation Magazine reveiwed this about 2 weeks ago, but only in their magazine, no online version. Had I been aware this was news worthy, I'd have scanned it and linked it for ya'll. It got an 8/10 there.

Scans are warez.

Oh... I keep forgetting that. Glad I didn't I guess. Still, had I known this was news worthy (or is the fact it got a 5/10 on this website no one's ever heard of the news?), I'd have at least posted about it, summarizing it.

Also, I think this is the Gamespot of Skyward Sword reviewer. Scored it intentionally low just to get attention.

They could just, you know, not like the game.

Honestly there's a huge difference between a Japanese game and a western game and some western reviewers may find the plot and characters terribly cliche and some mechanics simply obtuse while a Japanese reviewer would probably think the opposite. It's just different folks, different strokes. Also I don't remember 7.5/10 being called "low", it's not like he gave it a 2/10 and called it a lump of shit.

Also FFXIII had a bad ass soundtrack.

review shows how bad this game

but what can you expect is the sequel to one of the worst FF games ever made up there with FFx and FFX2 and FF8

The guy seemed to try to stick with being relatively objective/neutral with a slight focus on the negatives.
Because, lets face it, most well known review sites tend to focus heavily on the positives if not outright ignoring the negatives. (If not getting paid for a good scrore period.)

I think 5/10 is a fair score. He even basically says if you liked FFXIII you'll probably like FXIII-2.
Different strokes for different folks and all that.
