According to David Gibson who is live tweeting on the Investor Meeting, Wii-U will have an individual account system!
WiiU will have individual account system rather than previous per hardware, hence several users per hardware unit

But not only that, Wii-U will also support NFC (Near Field Communication). I'm thinking this will be used like Spyro Skylanders where you use figurines to unlock stuff.
WiiU before xmas, have prepared appropriate titles for launch, wiiU will have NFC enabling easy settlement and figurine connection

Although there is no logo here, we are planning to release a totally new side-scrolling action Super Mario in 2D as a key title for the Nintendo 3DS in the next fiscal year.

Nintendo Revelations and Megatons - summary so far

Wii U:
  • Wii U will have individual user accounts, rather than one system-wide account.
  • Near Field Communication ("touch" data transmission from accessories, credit cards, etc) will be built-in.
3DS:
  • Nintendo considering DLC, mentions "Super Mario" as an example:

"If a Super Mario user gets tired, we can then sell digital extras which will drive extra revenue, encourage higher communication amongst users, and possible increased satisfaction and hardware install bases."[/indent]
  • "Path to profits is improve 3DS and focus on software. Super Mario titles will drive a lot of profitability."
  • 200 3DS titles in development
  • 60% of 3DS users have connected to the Internet; wants to expand digital offering, but at "infant stage" now.
General:
  • This will be Nintendo's worst financial year, but Iwata thinks the company can reach break-even on 3DS hardware in Q3 of this year.
  • "We should not decline third parties if they want to offer item billing."
  • "Digital will include user to user communications and sharing" (More social networking integration? More Swapnote-like apps? More emphasis on Streetpass/Spotpass?).
  • Still planning to offer DLC, but needs more time to complete its feasibility study on the market and its needs.
  • Nintendo has learnt that it shouldn't have stagnant periods between software launches: can fill the gap, and digital can extend the life of a title.

Couple of more interesting (and depressing) tweets from that source:
--Execs here, don't think I have seen iwata (pres) and miyamoto(mario creator) faces so long and demure
--This year will be worst financially, but think can reach break-even on 3ds hardware in 1h of fy3/13

GoNintendo has a good summary:

- Culdcept and Calciobit are heading to 3DS in 2012
- Iwata feels responsible for 3 quarter decline
- 3DS sales still strong in US after Xmas
- this will be Nintendo's worst year financially
- believes the company can break even on 3DS hardware in FY3/13
- 200 titles coming to 3DS
- 60% of 3DS owners connected to internet
- looking to expand digital offerings
- Wii U before Christmas
- appropriate titles prepared for launch
- Wii U will have near field communication for easy settlement
- this will be international
- still have plans to do DLC, but they need more time to study the market
- Wii U will have individual accounts per system
- lots of internet/digital related news going forward, but not today

This is great news.

Now whats left is decent 3DS X WiiU connectivity, good launch titles and a decent launch price. The Wii U will be a true success.

This sounds impossible but I really hope the individual account system comes to the 3DS via some firmware update. :P

Culdcept DS was awesome, so the 3DS definitely excites me. but being a mainly JP release, that definitely puts a damper on things.

also, "Preparing for the Digital Distribution of Packaged Software"... is this gonna be like digital copies of 3DS games? but those are... HUGE. plus the SD card will have to be upgraded to something big AND fast as well (hindsight: RE:R works well enough on a Class 6). the good thing there would be game fixes and add-on content support for already published games (if said published games are made available thru download).

If the Xbox 360 can make incredibly deep changes to their firmwares I'm sure the 3DS can, too.

Sony successfully done it with the rich PS Store. I believe Nintendo can do the same.

I hope Miyamoto get his happy smile back. He makes me think his games are great! Or is this brainwash...?

Miyamoto: Wii U won’t be just about enhanced visuals, but graphics will be important for Zelda

Although Satoru Iwata was the main speaker at Nintendo’s financial results briefing today, Shigeru Miyamoto took some time to comment about his non-retirement and the Wii U.
Miyamoto stressed that the company’s upcoming console won’t just be about improved visuals. However, he did seem to say that there will be some titles in which visuals will be important – including Zelda.
We don’t have the official comment from Miyamoto, though an David Gibson was kind enough to provide a translation.

Digital distribution...

I wonder if devs are willing to port little by little from other consoles that Nintendo miss by digital only.
